Confronting fears that I have
I was shoved on the ground. I could not see because of the darkness. I leaned on my elbow and tried to rise to my feet, but I fell. In the meantime, the black cloth slipped on the ground from my head. I suddenly looked up and saw ocean waves. I then shifted my gaze from the water to my hands. My hands were trembling. My gaze suddenly fell on my clothes, which were torn and covered with blood. My eyes glistened with unshed tears.
Present Day
Suddenly, I opened my eyes and found myself in the car. I was just gazing out the car window and enjoying the view. After a long time, I was going back home. I am a police officer. My family is rich and has a multinational company in Bridge Castle. I am currently living in Waterdale, where I live with my girlfriend. I was going home to attend my sister’s wedding. The driver was gazing at me from the mirror. I noticed his behavior was odd. I looked up at him.
"Um... Do you have any questions?" I inquired. "I really think you should focus on the road instead of me."
"Oh, I was looking at the road," The driver cleaned sweat from his face with the back of his hand. "Sir, not you," the driver clarifies.
"I can tell, but what makes you interested in me?" I asked.
"Why do you think I'm interested in you?" the driver responded.
"I should probably be worried about you after everything I've been through," My voice was steady. "I mean, they sent a random guy to pick me up, and they know I’m not a fan of meeting new people."
I am not a strange man. I have been working at your parents’ home for the last four years. They know my family and friends. I was curious because I did not hear your name in the house, and no one talked much about you. Sorry, I did not tell you, my name. My name is Zack Sander. It is a long journey, so I just want to have a conversation. “Zack said. His voice was firm.
Hmmm... I have nothing much to tell you. I was a very annoying man, but now I am a responsible person. I work all day and try to spend as much time as possible with my girlfriend at night. I was a busy person. “I think I didn’t have much to tell you,” I said. My voice was low.
Why didn’t you join your father’s business? “I mean, you are a lawyer, and they have vacancies in his company,” Zack says.
Yes, there is no doubt they have it, but I want to get away from that life. “I don’t want to go back today either, but it’s my father’s order that I must join him at the wedding,” I explained.
“Just remember that you always have a choice,” Zack says. His voice was soft.
I rolled my eyes. “Hmm, that is easy for you to say. I do not know if we ever have a choice. Also, my family is complicated. I looked up and tightened my lips. “So, tell me what you know about my family,” I asked. My voice was laced with anger and resentment.
Everybody is nice. Your family warmly participates in philanthropic work. They are genuinely nice people. I recently got married, and your parents gave me a car as a gift. “They care about their servants,” Zack explains.
Ur... good to know. You are under their spell, no doubt. I need some shut eye because the last night I had a meeting and I came home late,” I said while leaning back in the car seat and closing his eyes.
I was in the middle of packing my bag when I noticed an old lady sitting on the bed.
“Please don’t go. We can sort this out together,” she urged.
But I really wanted to leave. “I can’t stay here where everyone is pointing fingers at me for something I didn’t do,” I said as I rushed out of the room.
I gave my head a nod while opening my eyes and took a moment to look around. I was still in the car, lost in thought about the day I left my parents’ house.
A while later, I was woken up by the driver. When I opened my eyes, he saw that I was at the beach. I turned down the car mirror. Zack was standing outside.
Surprise widened my eyes. “Why did you bring me here?” I asked. A low rumble came out of my mouth.
“It is the venue for the wedding. You should come out of the car. I’ll take you to the place of the wedding,” Zack says while opening the door.
Guests have already arrived and are seated in their chairs. I got out of the vehicle and stood next to Zack. I took a deep breath. He looks around and walks on his left side. A minute later, we arrived at the venue.
As soon as I stepped in the venue, people began chatting and whispering to one another in my general direction.
One visitor claim, “He is the boy who was abducted.”
According to what I have heard, he played a joke on his parents by disappearing. The police chief said who handled the case, but authorities could not identify the offender.
As I sat on the chair in the first row, an old lady came and hugged me. The old lady then sits next to me.
We are glad you are here, and I miss you. “You don’t know how much your sister will be happy to see you, Leo,” the old woman said. Her voice stammered.
A smile lit up my face. The old woman kissed me on the cheek. A minute later, a young man comes over to me and shakes my hand.
“David,” bro, you never change a bit. “What do you eat?” I asked. I stood up, wrapped my hands around him and hugged him. It is my charm, little brother. What happened to you? “You are looking thin, Leo?” David asks sarcastically.
Everything's all set on the stage. They announced that the bride was on her way, and everyone took their seats. Suddenly, a woman appeared with an older man walking down the aisle. She was wearing a stunning white dress, looking like a princess. They made their way to the stage, and I waved and said hi to the bride, who smiled back at me. The older man settled down next to me.
Emma looked absolutely gorgeous; she was just radiant. "I’m so happy she found love and is starting this new chapter in her life," the older woman remarked.
At that moment, another woman hurried down the aisle, her face showing clear signs of tension. She walked quickly to the elderly woman beside Leo and whispered something in her ear, causing a noticeable change in the older woman's expression. She immediately stood up.
Meanwhile, a woman rushed over to Emma and shared some news with her, causing the smile to fade from the bride's face. Emma glanced at her mother, and I could see her eyes welling up with tears.
The elderly lady grabbed my hand firmly and spoke.
“Go check on your sister and comfort her. She really needs you right now.”
I got up and glanced at the elderly woman. I must not have heard her correctly. “Could you repeat that?” I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper.
A wrinkle formed on my mother’s forehead. “This isn’t the time for jokes. Your sister is in distress. Just bring her inside and away from all this,” she insisted.
A young guy approached me and said, “What she means is that Steve stood her up,” smiling as he spoke.
“Who’s David?” I asked, confused. I placed my hands on my waist. “David is the groom,” he replied. “Looks like there goes the happily ever after,” he added with a chuckle. The old man gave young man single handed shove. “Knock it off, Tom,” an older man interjected.
I could not help but respond, “What?”
