A NOTE FOR THE INKITT TEAM & VISIONARIES CONTEST JUDGES

To the Inkitt Team and Visionaries Contest Judges,

I am including this note to clarify the connection between The Acquisition, its main character Lucien Vale, and the requirements of the Visionaries Writing Contest.

The Acquisition is my fictionalized biographical interpretation of the life, personality, accomplishments, and public story of Elon Musk, told through the fictional character Lucien Vale.

While the character’s name and the names of his companies have been changed, Lucien’s story was intentionally built from extensive research into Elon Musk’s real life and public history. His childhood in South Africa, his experiences growing up, his difficult relationship with his father, the bullying he endured as a child, his extraordinary intelligence and early interest in technology and coding, and his journey toward becoming one of the world’s most recognizable technology entrepreneurs all draw inspiration from documented aspects of Musk’s life.

Lucien’s professional achievements and ambitions are similarly inspired by Musk’s real-world ventures and interests, including electric and autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, space exploration and the goal of reaching Mars, neural technology, and his acquisition of a major social media platform.

The novel takes these recognizable elements of a real modern visionary’s life and places them within a fictionalized narrative, including an original romance storyline involving Elena Cross. The romance, dialogue, private interactions, and certain events are fictional creations used to transform the biographical inspiration into a character-driven novel rather than a traditional nonfiction biography.

This approach was intentional based on the contest guidelines allowing stories that are “thinly fictionalized” and inspired by real-life visionaries. The contest description’s reference to works such as The Social Network also influenced my interpretation of the prompt: a story can dramatize and fictionalize elements surrounding real people and events while remaining rooted in the story of a recognizable real-world visionary.

For absolute clarity: Lucien Vale is the fictionalized representation of Elon Musk in The Acquisition. His name and company names were changed for the purposes of fictional storytelling, while much of the foundation of his background, personality, career trajectory, technological ventures, and ambitions was researched and inspired by Musk’s publicly documented life.

The Acquisition was written specifically for the Visionaries Writing Contest with these guidelines in mind. It is my creative interpretation of a modern visionary’s story, blending researched biographical inspiration with fictionalized storytelling and an original romantic narrative.
