Chapter 1
Viviette
"There in less than half an hour." And with that, she hung up.
I sat on the bed, feeling a mix of happiness and nervousness. It had been years since I had seen Mina, and I couldn't wait to catch up with her. She was the only person I cherished and appreciated, along with my uncle Robert. They had been my entire life, helping me get through some of the toughest times and filling the void left by the loss of my parents.
As I hung up the phone, I felt a surge of gratitude wash over me. Despite all the hardships I had faced, I was lucky to have such amazing people in my life. With renewed energy, I quickly got up and prepared myself for Mina's visit, making sure that everything was in its proper place. I couldn't wait to see her and reconnect with an old friend, the one person who had always been there for me, no matter what.
As the doorbell rang, I quickly opened it to be greeted by Mina's radiant smile that lit up the entire room. I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement as I held her in a tight embrace, feeling the warmth of her body and the softness of her hair. After years of being away, it felt so good to have my closest friend back in my arms. As we walked to my bedroom, she held my hand and looked at me with a look of deep concern.
"I missed this, I missed you, Vivi. NY isn't the same without you," she said brightly, and I laughed at her cuteness. "You don't know how hard it was for me there," I replied, feeling a wave of emotion hit me. But just seeing Mina's cheerful face made me forget all my worries.
As we laid in bed, reminiscing about old times, we started teasing each other. "I've always thought about you and your failed relationships and the losers you dated," I teased her playfully, and she threw a pillow at me, which I caught in time. "Not this time, girl," I said, throwing it back at her. We laughed, feeling like carefree teenagers again.
"Well, I've not seen any lately. I didn't even go on dates. I've been focusing more on animals. They're my friends. Their company is ten times better than being on a date. They understand you more," Mina said, her eyes shining with passion. Mina was a vet, and her love for animals was one of the things that made her so special to me.
As we settled down, Mina couldn't help but ask me about my trip. "How was your trip? Did you make any changes?" she asked curiously. I took a deep breath and started to explain how it was hard at first, but eventually, I started showing my projects to people, and some of them agreed and liked them, while some didn't. I explained how I've been there to develop my mind and business more, so I can invest in here. I told her about the things that I had in mind, and how some stuff had been figured out.
"I know whatever you're working on will get its flourishing. I'm sure you're a smartass, and I'm proud to be your friend," Mina said, resting her hand on mine. I felt a sense of calmness in her words, and a reassurance that no matter what, she had my back.
We talked for a while, catching up on each other's lives, and then Mina suggested that we should spend some time out. I agreed, feeling like I needed to forget about everything and just have some fun with my best friend.
As we stepped out of my house, the cold breeze of the night hit my face, and I pulled my coat tighter around me. Mina and I walked for a while, talking and laughing, and then we decided to go to a nearby bar. The music was loud, and the atmosphere was lively. We ordered drinks and started to dance, feeling the music taking over us. It felt liberating to be out and about, enjoying the company of my friend.
