Prologue
LILA
“W-where are you t-taking me?” Panic started to set in as the men stopped the car in a suspiciously looking place.
I was so preoccupied with thoughts of meeting my mom that I didn't notice until it was too late.
“This is not the hospital!” My voice rose as the two burly men who sat on my right and left pushed and pulled me out of the black SUV.
“Someone. Help!” I screamed louder as they seized my arm on each side and hauled me toward an elevator. “Help!”
My voice echoed eerily in the darkly lit underground parking lot where more black SUVs were parked.
“No one is going to hear you down here darling.” One of them said. “Just shut up and be a good girl and you won’t get hurt.”
My tiny five-foot-two frame was no match for their huge six-foot bodies as I continued to kick and scream in their grip. Following behind us were the driver and two more men in the same black uniforms.
“M-my father is a p-powerful man. H-he’s gonna come l-looking for me.” My pathetic threat seemed to fall on deaf ears since they didn’t even react.
All five boulders surrounded me in the elevator making it difficult for me to move or breathe. “Please. Please let me go. My father has a lot of money. He…”
They stood still like robots as they faced the door with me buried in the center like I was invisible.
“He can give you what you want. Please.” The door dinged and opened. “Please. You don’t have to do this. Please. Please let me go.” They ignored my pleas and ushered me down a long corridor.
At the end of it, we were met with two men in white scrubs. Unlike the outside, the inside was well-lit and bright—like all the colors were sucked from it and only white remained.
Maybe this is a hospital?
They handed me over to the new strangers and left without a word of exchange. “Wait. Please. W-where am I?" My head snapped left and right, trying to get answers. "W-where's my mom? I-Is she here?” I asked as the men in white seized my arms on each side and hauled me toward another corridor filled with more people in white medical uniforms. “W-who are you?”
“Don’t worry about us. We're the least of your concern.” One of them said disinterestedly.
“We’ll take care of you.” The other one said and stabbed something into my neck.
Pain shot out from that spot as an unknown substance seeped into my system. My blood ran cold at the implication.
What did he just do to me?
My eyelids suddenly felt heavy.
“And before you know it, you won’t even remember who you were. Isn’t that great?” One of them laughed as my consciousness slowly faded.
