Amnesia
My body feels cold as my consciousness comes to. The sound of running water fills my ears. I slowly open my eyes. Grass fills my vision and my mouth. I roll over and sit up while rubbing the drool off my chin. I see my legs are in a river. I roll back over and crawl out of the river. I crawl to a nearby tree and sit against it. My body feels so sluggish and cold. I need to warm up. I think before trying to stand. I grab the tree and pull myself up. I get on my two feet and slowly let go of the tree. I walk back over to the river and look at my reflection. I see a tall man, about six feet tall, looking back at me. I have blue hair and matching blue eyes. I have two red horns on my head. There's a tattoo right below my neck and on my left shoulder. I see my shirt is torn, with only my right sleeve remaining. I have brown shorts on and no shoes.

"I'm a Dragonkin," I say while examining my body. I move my arms around as the sluggish feeling slowly fades away. Suddenly a sharp intense pain rings through my skull. I fall back on my ass and grab my head. The pain starts to fade away almost instantly. I let out a sigh of relief as the pain slowly disappeared. I stand back up before turning around. "Now what? Where should I go?" I ask, thinking aloud. I take a step forward, leaving the river. As I do, I hear a growl from the bushes in front of me. I stare at the bush for a few moments before it rustles. Two creatures walk out of the bushes. "Wolves?" I say while stepping back. They each walk on four legs and have grey fur. They have red eyes and are bearing their fangs. They each have a single horn on their heads. They take a step toward me while growling. I take a step back and my right foot goes into the river. I look down at my bare foot in the water.
"Look out!" I hear a woman's voice shout. I look back up and see one of the wolves in the air. Its jaw is open and its saliva is spraying out. My body moves on its own. I bring my right leg up and kick it on the side of its head. The wolf falls to the ground on my left. It rolls into the river behind me and out of sight. The other one's running toward me and gets ready to jump. Before it does there's a loud bang sound. A small green ball, no bigger than my big toe, hits the wolf's head. It travels fast, far too fast for it to hope to dodge. Blood sprays from the hole left behind. It falls to the ground as another bang sounds off. I turn around and see the wolf I kicked dead. It's lying in the river facing me. I turn to where the sound came from. A woman approaches me while sheathing a weapon on her back. She's wearing a set of metal and leather armor that looks light to move in. She has long blonde hair and green eyes. She has two long ears and feminine features.

"Are you alright?" She asks me while walking into the river.
"Uh, yeah I'm fine. They didn't bite me or anything." I reply as she grabs the wolf's body. She drags it out of the river and places it next to the other. "What are you doing?"
"I'm getting the bodies. The adventurer guild will pay a decent coin for them." She replies before sitting down a few feet away. "Anyway, what happened to your shirt? And why are you out here without a weapon?" She asks while motioning for me to sit across from her.
"I don't know. I woke up here in the river just a bit ago." I reply while taking a seat.
"Really? What happened before that? How did you end up in the river?"
"Again, I don't know. I can't remember anything before this." I tell her causing her to go wide-eyed.
"You have amnesia. Hmm... Okay, can you remember your name?"
"No, I can't. I do remember I'm a Dragonkin. But I don't know what that means." I say causing her to smile gently.
"That's the name of your race. That's why you have those red horns and blue hair. Dragonkin are born with horns like those. Your hair changes depending on your personality, but I don't know more than that. Nor do I know what blue hair means. I'm an Elf, by the way. It's why I have these long ears." She says while running her hands behind her ears. "Do you remember your status screen?" She asks causing me to shake my head no. "Okay, so just say show status. Then you'll see it."
"What is this status screen?"
"It'll be easier to show than to explain. But it'll hopefully tell us your name." She says causing me to smile.
"Okay then, show status," I say causing a rectangular box to manifest in front of me. It appears from several small red lights that stretch into a rectangle. It floats in the air about a foot in front of me.

I stare at the screen in awe before reading everything.
"Do you see the box in the top left? Does it tell you your name?" She asks.
"Yeah, it's Theolenius," I say causing her to clap her hands.
"Good, and sorry, I should've introduced myself sooner. My name is Silvaleon. But call me Silva. Would it be fine to call you Theo?" Silvaleaon asks.
"Yeah, that'd be fine. So Silva, what does Level Max mean?" I ask her.
"What level are you?"
"It says I'm level 1," I say causing her to go wide-eyed.
"Then you're level got reset?" She asks thinking aloud. "Sorry, um it means that your stat has reached its max for your level. I'm not sure what the max is for Dragonkin, they differ for each race. But it means you can't raise that stat anymore until you level up. It's a system the Gods put in place. When we train our bodies we can see it in our stats. Doing push-ups and other exercises raises your Strength for example. But we all have a limit to how high our stats can go. Once you level up though, that limit decreases, so you'll have higher stats. Most people end up having one or two stats reach max before leveling up. Which of your stats are maxed?"
"All of them?"
"So you were definitely a fighter. Oh! Do you have a class?"
"Yeah, I have a class. It's called Destroyer."
"Really? I know that one. It's a class designed for combat. It's very offense-oriented, focusing on attack skills and spells."
"What are skills?" I ask causing her to look up at the sky. She smiles before looking back at me.
"Okay, so skills and spells are how we use mana. Most races can't use mana without a medium. So the Gods created skills and spells for us. There are three different groups of skills. Class skills, normal skills, and divine skills. Each of these groups contains spells as well. The difference between spells and skills is that spells create a magic circle to activate. So they don't need any specific weapon or tool. But they can be boosted with certain tools like wands. Skills need a weapon or tool to activate. If you don't have that then you can't use it. Anyway, normal skills are skills and spells that anyone can use regardless of class. An example is the cooking skill I have. It's a skill that allows you to preserve mana when cooking. This will cause the food I cook to restore more mana when eaten. It doesn't do anything for the taste though. Class skills are skill and spells unique to certain classes. For example, I am a Spirit Gunner." Silva says while drawing her weapon from her back.
"What's a Spirit Gunner?"
"It's a class unique to Elves. The magic that Humans, Dragonkin, and most of the other races use is called circle magic. It's called this because you create magic circles when casting spells. These circles are the mediums you use to cast them. But we Elves use spirit magic. Spirits are small balls of light no bigger than your head. We can use them to cast spells. There are different spirits for each element. Only Elves can see and sense spirits by the way. They don't have any intelligence or a will of their own, however. In fact, spirits are the reason I found you. They instinctually cling to those whose mana they like. Since they were huddled around you, I knew someone was here. I didn't expect a Dragonkin though. Anyway, back to my class. My magigun here is what makes me a spirit gunner." She says while lifting it up. It's a rifle made of metal painted dark brown. It's about three or four feet long. It has a carving of a green wolf on its side. The barrel is blue and its stock has leather padding. It looks worn from years of use. That said, it's obviously well-maintained. "It uses my mana to shoot. As you saw earlier, it packs a punch. But it uses mana with each shot, so it's pretty rare to see someone using one. It's only because I have the divine skill, Greater Mana Boost, that I feel comfortable using it. We'll get to divine skills in a moment. But I have a class skill called Power Shot. It adds more mana to my next attack which will increase my next attack's power. It's unique to archer and gunner classes. There's a similar skill called Power Slash for melee classes, but that uses a sword. Power Bash is similar but with a mace or hammer."
"Is the Destroyer class a melee or ranged class?"
"It's melee. Most Destroyers use swords, maces, or hammers."
"Okay, so what are divine skills?" I ask causing her to smile.
"Divine skills are gifts from the Gods. No matter how much you train or practice you'll never learn one. You can only be born with them, or be rewarded if you carry out a mission for them. But their missions are rare. But there are other divine skills that are hereditary. Meaning they run in your family. For example, all royal families of every race have the divine skill, Royalty. This skill boosts their stats depending on their kingdoms. The happier and more prosperous their kingdom, the more power this skill gives them. This is meant as a way to get them to focus on making their subjects happy, but also to help defend them."
"This is the third time you've mentioned the Gods. Who exactly are they?" I ask causing her to smile happily.
