On with the story!

Katie walked into the building that held the law offices of Carson & Carson. She worked as their assistant for a couple months. She needed to work after leaving her hometown of Lubbock, Texas. She was now living in an apartment in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She walked into the office and sat at her desk.

“Katie is that you?” She heard her boss, Nate say.

“Yep, I’m here boss,” Katie replied. Nate came out of his office and looked at her smiling.

“Katie, I wish you wouldn’t call me that, you may be my assistant but you pretty much keep us going,” Nate said.

“Sorry Nate,” Katie said.

“It’s fine, I’ve got court all day, Nick should be coming back from his soon,” Nate said.

“Okay,” Katie said.

“How was your weekend?” Nate asked.

“It was fine,” Katie said.

“Katie what’s wrong?” Nate asked.

“My brother called,” Katie said.

“Kevin or Kenny?” Nate asked.

“Both on speaker,” Katie said.

“What happened?” Nate asked.

“They aren’t happy that I moved up here by myself and want me to move back to Lubbock but I had to get out of there, too many memories,” Katie said.

“Of your parents?” Nate asked.

“Yeah, but then they got news that the guys who caused the accident that killed my parents were released from jail due to mishandling of the evidence by the cops,” Katie said.

“Oh Katie,” Nate said.

“They are just getting away with it, they can’t charge them for it now that they have been released,” Katie said.

“Maybe it’s good that you are out of town, you won’t risk running into them,” Nate said.

“I’m scared what my brothers will do,” Katie said.

“I can call a buddy of mine, he’s a detective and probably can get in touch with the department down there,” Nate said.

“I don’t know what can be done,” Katie said.

“They can keep an eye on the guys and maybe see if they can be charged with something else,” Nate said.

“Something needs to be done before my brothers do something they regret,” Katie said.

“I will work on it Katie, you may have just started here, you are family now,” Nate said.

“Thanks Nate, you better get going,” Katie said.

“If you need anything, call Chad and Nick should be here shortly,” Nate said. He left. Katie sat down and went through the papers on her desk.

“Hey Katie,” Nick said as he came in.

“Hey Nick,” Katie said.

“Nate caught me outside the courthouse and told me what was going on so I will be making calls for him,” Nick said.

“Just as long as something is done before my brothers do something,” Katie said.

“We will make sure your brothers are safe,” Nick said.

“Thanks Nick,” Katie said. He went into his office. Katie looked at her phone and saw a text from an unknown number.

You may think you can run from us but we will find you, we won’t stop until all the Nelsons are gone,” the text said.

“NICK!!!” Katie yelled. He came running out and she showed him the text. He took a picture of it and made some calls.

“Okay your brothers aren’t home, they are actually headed up here, they left town last night before the guys got out, they aren’t leaving a trail so they will be here soon, one of my guys are following them and we got other guys watching those guys, they saw one sending a text so it’s them who are behind the text, they are after your family and we need to find out why,” Nick said.

“Oh god,” Katie said.

“As soon as Nate is back, we will talk and decide what to do, we will keep you safe, Katie, we will keep your brothers safe too,” Nick said. He knelt down next to her.
