Chapter 1
Third person’s POV
Liv is walking to down the hall her last period with her best friend, Trina. Liv and Trina have been friends since 6th grade. They bonded during their tryouts for competition cheer. They were they last 2 girls to try out for the cheer team. While waiting for their turns they started chatting and found they had a lot of mutual interests and things in common, including the fact that no one called them by their actual name. Liv’s name is Olivia Thomson, and Trina’s is Catrina Smith. They also discovered that they had friends in common outside of cheer. Trina and Liv performed excellent routines and were both on the competition cheer team until there senior year of high school.
While walking down the halls the girls, started discussing the upcoming cheer routine that they wanted to present to the result of the cheer team. They wanted to change up their current routines. Being so occupied neither noticed Liv’s boyfriend, Douglas Lindsay standing in the hallway outside of her class. Liv looked up and noticed that Douglas was standing outside of her choir class holding a bouquet of flowers and a card. “Hey Doug, what’s going on? Aren’t you supposed to be at basketball practice?”
Douglas smiles his million dollar smile that reaches his hazel eyes and replies “Liv, I wanted to ask you, if you will go to prom with me?”
Liv’s POV
I have been in love with Douglas since I first saw him in Sophomore English class 3 years ago. It was the first day of class and he walked in and sat in the seat next to me. This boy, no man was the most beautiful man I have even seen. He was 6’4”, caramel skin, chocolate eyes, and full lips, that I kept imagining kissing. What is going on with me, I have never looked at a guy like this. Wait his lips are moving, I think he is talking to me, what is saying? While she was daydreaming she realized that Douglas was talking to her.”Hi, do you have a pen looks like mine appears to be out of ink”
Before I got a chance to respond, the girl sitting on the other side of him replied, “I do. By the way my name is Angela and you are?”
He reaches out his hand and takes the pen and responds, “Douglas Lindsey, but my friends call me Lindsey.”
I could not believe that Angela was flirting with Douglas. But why would she not flirt with him? I turn around in my seat silently cursing myself. Two months later Doug and Angie was Insta official, until they weren’t. Two weeks into summer break rumors start to spread that Angela and Doug were no more. Trina and I were in the mall shopping for swimsuits for an upcoming pool party and for our next cheer competition trip. Just as we were walking out of the store I walked right into a hard surface, to my surprise it is Douglas chest.
“I am so sorry, I totally did not see you there.” I says apologetically to Doug. He does not respond just helps to steady me on my feet so I don’t fall. Roderick, Trinas boyfriend snickers before he walks around to hug Trina. “Hey babe, I thought I was not going to see you until later, when I picked you up for the movies.”
“Oh babe, I totally forgot I invited Liv to the movies, I hope you don’t mind? Lindsey how about you join us that way Liv is not a third wheel?”
I pull Trina to the side and silently whispers. “What are you doing? You did not invite me.”
“How else are you going to get close the guy of your dreams?”
“He has a girlfriend, besides he is not interested in me.”
“Not true according to Roderick, he talks about you all of the time. Don’t you see the way he looks at you. I bet he is looking at you right now.”
I look out the corner of my eye and sure enough he is staring at me. He did not hide that he was looking at me and I enjoyed the way he looked me. When I saw it I immediately said “ok, I will go.”
Later that night… the four of us went to the movies. Trina and Roderick made out during the movie while Doug and I made awkward small talk sitting on the other side of the couple. “So are you going to the pool party later this week?”
“Yeah, I will be there. What about you?”
“Yeah, I guess, I have cheer competitions and I will be working the rest of the summer so this may be my last chance to let loose this summer. What are your plans for the summer?”
“I have basketball camp”
“Is basketball your life?”
“Pretty much, my dream is to be in the NBA. What about you?”
“Music, I have been playing the piano, since I was 5, and i play a few other instruments. For every cheer and gymnastics class my mom wanted me to take my dad insisted that I take some sort of music lessons.”
“Wow, i did not know you were into music. I knew you cheered and swam.”
“Yeah, my dad and I bonded over music. It was something we enjoyed during my visits with him. We would go to concerts and sometimes we would just play and sing together. Wait, you know I swim, not a lot of people know that I am on the swim team.”
“Yes, I saw you, one of the guys on the basketball team is also on the swim team. Some of us went to support him, and I saw you. You were great. I was in awe of how fast and graceful you were.”
“Thanks, it my little secret. I love it. Been taking swim lessons since before I could walk. When my parents were married my dad insisted that I take lessons. There is a pool at my dad’s and he wanted to make sure that I would be safe in and around the water. My mom thought that i would eventually give up on swim and focus on cheer. She thought that i had better odds of getting into school with cheer instead of swim. I have been taking summer school classes just so I had enough time in my schedule for both swim and cheer. Next year I am joining choir so that I have time for at least one of my loves.”
“You are busy girl, when do you have time for yourself?”
“I don’t know I guess, I don’t. I guess that I just find the time. I mean I am here now, aren’t I?”
“Shhhhh” someone from behind us whisper yelled. So embarrassed we continued to watch the movie in silence.
