Chapter 1. CEO Alan
Alan was sitting on the stretcher holding is injured left arm. It was a good thing he was right-handed, or else somebody would have gone crazy, even more, if that could be possible, because of a temporary inability to sign all those documents that were piling up next to his table at his office. Probably he was the only one regretting he was still able to sign documents.
Alan didn’t see a big deal in what had happened, he wasn’t worried at all. But the said somebody did see the big deal. He had already freaked out when he received that call telling him to go to the hospital X, a private hospital in the city centre, because his CEO, that is, the CEO of the company YY, had had an accident on his way home. He stormed into the private room where the CEO had been taken to be treated and rest. He hadn’t intended to shout or scold the CEO at first, expecting nothing but a couple of scratches, because that was what he was told at first that the CEO had suffered. He planned to talk to him in a calm and polite way. But as soon as he saw him with a support bandage on his arm and right the first thin the CEO told him, Babe forgot all kind of formalities, and just started to shout at him like crazy.
“Don’t shout at me like this, it wasn’t that serious. It’s just a bandage. At least, I didn’t get a cast and it’s my left arm”.
“¿DIDN’T GET A CAST? Is that all you are going to say to me? ¿And your left arm? You could have been severely injured or even worse, killed! And you dare to talk about a damn cast!!
“Oh come on, it’s not such a big deal! It’s true that the poor lady didn’t see me until the very end because of the sun on her eyes. But she managed to stop just on time, and I managed to jump aside. You’re making too much fuss! Calm down. Ok?
“Too much fuss? Calm down? Can’t believe it!! Do you really care about your life, about yourself, at all? You have received death threats. Your security team advised you to take them seriously. Police advised you to take them seriously, too. And what do you do? You don’t mind the advises. You think of them as nonsense, as threats made by somebody. And because it’s a sunny day you decide to walk home all by yourself, leaving your bodyguard behind. Not a single word you told them about your intentions. They didn’t know where you were. They couldn’t find you. And that made me terribly worried… and angry.”
“But what happened to me has nothing to do with the bodyguard or the threats, it was just an accident. What could the bodyguard have done in this situation?”
“I don’t know, maybe prevent it from happening? His job consists of paying attention to everything that happens around you, unlike you”.
“Even if it is as you are saying. These people have been protecting me for one month already. Shouldn’t they know by now what I do, what I like, and what I don’t do or like? It’s not me who should be updating them on these things, but they who should find out. They should be walking one step ahead of me in everything.
Babe stayed silent after that comment. He knew Alan was right. Those bodyguards turned out to be not the best in their assignments.
“I’m afraid I have no choice but to agree with you. But you just lived their last assignment”.
“No more bodyguards?”
“Keep dreaming. No, that is not going to happen at all. Things are going to change from now on, for your own sake and for goof, even if you don’t care about yourself. I’m hiring new bodyguards.
“Oh! come on Babe! What’s the point? They are all the same.
“Not these. This company is specialized in “naughty and mischievous” clients. They are sending us their best team.
Alan furrowed his eyebrows when he heard that.
“I’m not a child that needs to be educated Babe”.
“Are you sure?” A death glare from Alan made him stop. He may have crossed the line too much. Time to retreat. “Yes, you are right. My apologies, sir. You are not a child, but you must admit that sometimes you are difficult to deal with, and that makes everybody worry too much and for too long”.
Alan sighed. He knew Babe was right. He liked to do his own way too much, and he knew that as a CEO, he was meant to follow the rules more often than he used to do. But that was also the way he relieved from stress and from the worries of work, like these death threats, for example. If he had paid the amount of attention Babe asked him to do, he’d have locked himself in a tower and never come out again. But he liked fresh air, going for a walk, and ice creams and so many more things he did on the open. He didn’t want to sacrifice all of these things he enjoyed just because there was some crazy dude who was way too bored in life and whose only hobby must be writing letters in which he threatened Alan, his family and his employees. Although, truth to be told, Alan was indeed worried, not scared, because he was sure this man o whoever it was, wouldn’t dare to hurt anybody physically, but it worried him the anguish and discomfort that people around him might be feeling. And that was the reason why he had agreed with Babe all the way here, and he’d continue agreeing with all the decisions related with his well-being.
But these were the things he’d never tell Babe, or he’d never see the end to “See? I told you. I was right¨ Babe blabbering. And if it was just Babe, the one being a nuisance, maybe he’d be able to cope with it, but there was also Way, the third cofounder, and the one who hadn’t stopped calling Alan since everybody found out about the accident, and the one Alan didn’t feel like hear ranting through the phone. He had it enough with Babe.
“Ok.” Alan said.
“What?” Babe asked as he was busy checking his phone, his ipad and the laptop, all at the same time.
“I said fine. I accept this new team. Call them.”
A week later, Alan was in his office going over some documents that needed to be signed as soon as possible. There was a knock on the door and, just before Alan could even say the word “come in,” Babe flung the door open and entered the office, followed by five men.
Alan assumed that this was the “perfect” team Babe had hired to take care of him. At first glance, it didn’t look like a typical team of bodyguards. None of them wore the classic dark suit, white shirts and black ties. They were dressed completely casually in dark tones, but not in total black.
After that quick glance at them all, he couldn’t help but stop at the one in the middle of the group. He was the shortest of them and had light skin and a look that denoted determination and will. As Alan was looking at him, while that man was just looking ahead, he heard Babe say: “Mr. Hemitch, meet your new team of bodyguards. This group will be led by the team leader here, Mr. Jeff Tanont.”
Alan knew immediately that the man he kept looking at was the one that was called team leader. He had known it from the first moment he set eyes on him, and he couldn’t help but think that perhaps it wouldn’t be so boring and tedious to have a new team of bodyguards.
A thought that was somewhat shared by Babe, who also thought that this team could be useful especially when it came to finding and controlling his CEO properly.
There was a third thought, totally different from the other two. This one was running through Jeff’s mind, and it was a wish, he wished he wouldn’t be recognized or remembered at all. He couldn’t allow his shyness to come out and the teasing that, he was sure, would follow.
“Mr. Hemitch, it is an honor to meet you. Allow us to take care of your safety from now on.” Jeff said while he bowed.
