Chapter 1
The once happy atmosphere of the pack grounds suddenly turned dark ominous, a chill surrounded everyone as a deadly silence hung over the grounds as the vile Alpha and my brother stood before each other chests rumbling as their eyes turned darker with their wolves surfacing. The small omega stood beside her luna trembling as she peaked from below her lashes to peer at her Alpha and my brother with worry and fear.
I turned to my mate with worry as we stood arm in arm at the bottom of the aisle ready to step in if necessary. The king still stood before us all looking regal as he peered down with curiosity as my brother’s tense voice says “Alpha James, I would like a moment to speak with my mate”, his voice slightly deeper than normal as he tried to keep his anger at bay as the vile Alpha sneered down at him with contempt.
I waited to see what would happen, worried for the members of the pack that were stood close to the obviously enraged Alphas, worried for their safety as Alpha James stood glaring at my brother, his arms trembling as he says “Mate? This thing? I don’t think so, she is our packs slave and she will do well to remember her place”, his voice vicious as he turns his dark eyes to the terror-stricken omega that seemed to shrink in on herself as her Alpha peered into her daring her to go against him.
My brother however growled enraged by the Alphas words, his body trembling as his wolf Hugo was clearly pushing to come forward, for control. As I went to take a step my mate grabbed my waist pulling me back as he says “Ember baby, wait let’s see what your brother does if he needs our help, we will help but it is best with pups around to avoid a fight”, his voice tense as he peers at James with disgust.
Nodding, understanding his worry I mind-link pack members to move back and to take the pups far from here, some move grabbing their pups and rushing off but it was too late. Alpha James enraged beyond reason grabbed the omega by her neck, his meaty fingers gripping her choking the breath out of her trembling body as he says loudly “Alpha heir Harley, this thing is not mating material she is a slave, worthless just like my Luna, if you wish to push the issue, I will snap her neck right here right now”, his voice deeper as his wolf Blaster seems to be taking control of his human.
Pup’s wails filled the air as parents rushed to get away, the situation becoming more grave by the minute, I quickly moved forward, rushing to my brother’s side ready to protect him and the scared omega if I needed to. Peering between them both as the omegas small legs kicked and wiggled midair as she struggled against her Alpha’s choke hold, I realized I was missing something, why is he enraged, shouldn’t he be happy we are taking the omega slave from him if she was truly worthless as he says, frowning I say “Alpha James, you threaten my family, this poor omega, why? If she is indeed worthless then should you not be happy for us to take her off your hands? Why cause a scene?”, my voice sturdy as I glowed at the vile man as he sneered at me with obvious annoyance as the pup’s wails fall to the background around us.
The vile Alpha laughed, the chill I had moments ago returning tenfold as his eyes peer at me with amusement as he says “Luna Ember, stay out of this, be a dear spread your legs for your Alpha and run along this is for men to handle”, his voice condescending and obnoxious as he outright disrespects me, Amber surfaces enraged we had been spoken to in such a manner as she speaks through me “How dare you speak to my human like that, you disgusting pig. That omega is our family, my brother’s Luna if you do not wish to die by my fire you will release her now…...”, my voice commanding and strong as Amber glowers at the Alpha the grounds come to a complete standstill.
The Alpha squeezes harder against her throat making her wheeze out, her eyes bugging out in a panic as he says “I don’t think so, this omega is mine and she will reject her mate to continue her duties to her pack, her family owe a debt for their betrayal”, his voice as cold as ice as with a jerk with his arm he sends the small woman hurling through the air as she shrieks in fear.
Growling enraged at the man’s audacity, i rush to catch her but I was too slow as she came crashing to the ground with force, her cries of agony as her bones crack had my heart thundering in my chest as I ignore the vile Alpha and the commotion going on behind me. My only thought in that moment was to get her help, as I fall to my knees beside her still body.
As my eyes trail over her bruised body, unshed tears in my eyes I see her pain filled eyes roll back into her head as she passes out. Looking her over I notice her shoulder took the brunt of the fall, looking to be dislocated, I tenderly feel her ribs feeling each one easily with her being skin and bone, I could feel that her ribs on her right side were too broken.
Gasping, filled with panic I reach out for a pack doctor through the packs mind-link just as the kings forceful voice bellows out over the crowd “ENOUGH, Alpha James, stand down you can not deny the mate bond or force rejection of the said bond, you will allow her transfer to Alpha Hudson’s pack to be with the promising Alpha heir Harley, if you do not follow my rule I will force you”, his voice acted as a whip as everyone stood away from Alpha James.
My brother turns his focus to his mate, rushing to my side butt naked, his eyes filled with unshed tears and panic as he gasps “No, please no, please tell me I didn’t get her killed”, his voice sounding fragile and broken as he crashes to the ground and seems to hesitate in touching his mate. Softly clasping his shoulder, I say “No brother, she will be okay she has a few broken bones and a broken shoulder the pain must have caused her to pass out”, my voice wavering with my concern as I hear Alpha James argue fruitlessly with the Alpha king.
Turning to face the vile man,I am left startled as my mate is stood next to the Alpha king in wolf form snarling at the sorry excuse for an Alpha as the King as regal and calm as anything says “Alpha James I now strip you of your title as Alpha, you will be made rogue from this day forward you have until dawn to pack your things and leave from this day forward your Luna will be the leader of breaking dawn pack”, his voice carrying the command of a royal effortlessly as the former Alpha roars with outrage and trembles on the spot before the familiar sounds of bones breaking and forming filled the air.
Standing over my brother and mate, I brace myself for any signs he may attack, Amber just below the surface as the thud of paws hitting the ground had our heart hammering within our chest and made our ears ring. Stiffening I watch in horror as the former Alpha attacks his mate, his own Luna, clawing into her stomach with a deadly blow before turning his dark eyes in our direction.
Horror filled gasps came from the pack members watching the scene before warrior’s leap into action, in a blink of an eye twenty or more bulky men stood before me surrounding myself and my brother ready to defend us as I suck in a harsh breath and pull on my gift to protect those I care for. Closing my eyes I feel the power flow through me, lighting my skin with a prickle of sparks I hold my hands up and force my blue flames to surround us all just as the vile former Alpha charged at us blinded by his rage.
The king roars, the power rolling off of him in deadly waves had the men surrounding me tremble before they fall to their knees in respect. Alpha James skids in the dirt of the pack lands coming to a swift halt before looking between our king and myself before rushing to the tree lines and leaving as fast as his paws could take him.
Breathing a sigh of relief, I see the pack doctor rushing towards us with his hospital bag in hand. The slender man was looking rather shaken but seemed to be holding it together as he says “Sorry Luna, I wish I was quicker but I had to get my bag I had already left when you mind-linked. Alpha Harley, may I approach your mate?”, his voice low and calm as his eyes remained lowered to the ground in respect not wanting to aggravate my poor brother.
I watch my brother growl in warning scaring the poor doctor as he stepped further back, sensing the threat in my brother’s actions. Sighing, I stepped up to him, kneeling in the dirt as I say “Brother, come on, let the doctor fix your mate up”, my voice soft and calm as my brother nodded as I pulled him away, gripping his arm tightly knowing that an Alpha cannot be trusted when his Luna is hurt as they become more protective especially with a male near her.
It broke my heart to see my brother look so broken, he was the joker of our family, the lighthearted but strong man that seemed to always be calm but now stood before me stood a broken and distraught man. I watched his steps quicken as he paced back and forth before me ruffling his hair as he muttered too low for my hearing.
The doctor was working with ease and speed, his hands touching and feeling the areas I knew were broken from the impact of her fall as he seemed to be humming to himself. It had not escaped my notice that the clearing now only had the beta of the breaking dawn pack, the warriors they came with, the fallen Luna, my mate, the king, my brother, the packs doctor and the poor omega that has clearly wormed her way into my brother’s heart.
Catching my mate’s eyes, I barely manage a smile as his smooth voice comes through the packs mind-link saying “My love, you okay?”, his voice wavering with concern as I swallow harshly before saying “Yes, baby, the pack needs you the pups are not calming I have had a few mothers mind-link me that they are scared”, my voice shaky, the shock finally settling in that an Alpha had been stupid enough to not only challenge my brother but also challenged the Alpha king.
I wince as the sound of bones snapping filled my ears, I turn to see the pack doctor putting her shoulder in a bandage after re-setting the bone. The pack doctor trailed his hands down her ribs and hummed before saying “Alpha Harley, hr ribs are broken but it appears her wolf is already healing them so I will wrap her ribcage to keep them in place, she is going to need lots of rest and she can travel in a couple of weeks but for now it be best she stay here, if there is any symptoms or pain please call me so I can look her over”, his voice trailing off as my brother startles the poor doctor by launching himself at him muttering his gratitude in the slender doctors ears as the poor doctor chuckles.
Shaking my head at my brother, a smile spreading cross my face I peel him off of the poor doctor as I say “Brother, go get your mate settled in your room, one of the omegas have already moved her stuff into your room in the pack house and will be on hand to help you care for her”, my voice gentle but filled with relief that his mate will make it out of this unlike her poor Luna.
My brother chuckles, his mood completely changing in an instant as he swiftly kisses my cheek before rushing to his mate side. Shaking my head I watch as he tenderly lifts his broken mate into his arms, his touch light around her ribs in an effort to not hurt her he moves slow off the clearing, the doctor following leaving me to help my mate and the Alpha king settle the last piece of business.
As I make it closer to the gathered group, I hear the Alpha king questioning the beta, his voice was thick with anger as he says “Beta, why was it not brought to my attention that your Alpha was abusing not only his Luna but an omega? I would also like to know why the poor omega was made a slave for the pack? Did she commit a crime? If so what was the crime?”, his voice deeper telling me the kings wolf was seconds away from losing his calm as the beta bowed his head with shame before saying “The Alpha threatened the entire pack that if we go against him he would kill us, or our Luna, as our Luna cared for us we couldn’t let anything happen to her, as for the omega she was innocent but her parents had tried reaching out to you my king but somehow and I don’t know how he found out and killed them, she was a pup so he kept her as a slave”, his voice wavering with guilt.
