Chapter 1

It was the middle of the night when Emily’s phone beeped loudly on the dresser next to her bed, waking her from her dream. She groaned in annoyance as she grabbed her phone to look at the text that she had received.

‘Who is texting me at this hour?’ Emily thought as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. ‘That was some dream.’ She looked to her phone next to her. ‘Who would be up at this hour?’

Emily grabbed her phone and squinted when the brightness of the light coming from the device hit her sleepy eyes. Once her eyes adjusted to the light she brought the text up and found that it was from an unknown number.

Sender unknown: ’Soon.’ 2:23am Friday.

Emily frowned as she read the one-word message. ‘Soon? What is that supposed to mean? Maybe they got the wrong number?’ she shook her head as she placed the phone back on the dresser. ‘I can’t think about it now. I need to sleep. Last day of school ever tomorrow. I’m excited but also a little nervous as well. Who knows what the future holds for me.’
