A great sequel

"'Secrets that Children Keep' by Lauren Massuda is a great sequel to its prequel 'Secrets on the Walls'. It's imagery remains just as captivating as the first. The plot was well developed and to see the sisters face their own trials and grow in their own way was very interesting. You learn more about the characters as well as the worlds that the grandmother has created. Eventually becoming more curious about the dark side of them that is reflective of the grandmother's past. Especially when seen against worlds such as the one where King Simon and his family live. It definitely doesn't conform to "the sequel doesn't stand up to the prequel" rule and is an enjoyable read in its own right."

Very imaginative

"I haven't read the first one since I randomly stumbled upon this first and I was immediately pulled in. I liked the relationship of the sisters and really felt for both of them as they tried to find each other again. I loved the worlds that the writer created and I would especially love to live in that kingdom that sits on top of a waterfall. The writer has a great imagination! Kudos!"

Even Better than the First

"At first I was shocked to see it was in first person, but much to my delight, I actually preferred first person over third! I think it does a much better job of getting into your protagonists' heads and seeing the description from their eyes. I only wished you could've put "Sophie" or "Suzette" at the very beginning of each chapter to reflect whose POV we were going to read. Yes, it was obvious enough to figure out, but just in case people get confused, I think that'll solve the problem. I have one suggestion that might...be drastic, so feel free to completely ignore it if you don't agree! SPOILERS (for anyone else who's reading this): I would have preferred it if you didn't hint there was more to Hertha. I think the shock factor of how evil she (or "she") is becomes a lot more impactful if the readers are led to believe the entire time, even by Sophie, how nice and welcoming she was without any suspicion. But other than that, bravo!"

Another Great Adventure

"I may actually like this story more than the first, I loved seeing the sisters develop more as individuals, the paths they took and the people they met.. My favorite scene was probably the dinner scene with Sophie and Hertha, the imagery and the dialogue was great. I loved that the first and last chapter was in Emma's perspective, we still don't know much about her but I love her character so much. I can't wait for the third book to find out more. Another great job!"

A Worthy Sequel

"This story was a joy to read, cleaner and better written than the story that preceded it. The characters were vivid, even if the villains were a tad flat. The first-person perspective made a surprising change from the first book, but the author pulled it off. I was hoping for more progress on the quest started in the first book, but I was quickly sold on the girls' current dilemmas. The story moved quickly, and the setting was lovely as well. Well done!."
