Chapter 1
The Highelf city of Tescelava, lived a set of high noble families. These families were known to be of great importance. Each family had a large role to play in the foundation of their city, with each child being the next pillar to sustain it.
The families were known even in other Highelf, to WoodElf and even some human cities. They were a grand company. The families were all known to delve into magic, one of the other families; their first born Helter Tevash, was an aspired sorcerer. He was well known for his way with the arts of pyromancy, however be had a bad habit of burning his own eyebrows.
Helter was famous with the ladies though, he always had one around his shoulders and another on his knickers. He was very much a distainable specimen however to Frieda Shivalish, although Frieda was always known to be fiesty and ill-mannered when it came to men and her rivals. Frieda was known highly as being a chatter box though, that her mouth could run a mile more than her own skills at the magical arts.
It was once documented by her professor Mc.Grustvinfin, that at one point when she tried to change the properties of water into ice. She would end up changing it into urine instead. The entire class would roar with laughter, during this though would come the birth of a long-time rivalry.
“What a oaf! Such a display should be put up at a puppet show for the poor. Such a sight honestly is something to make me gag, perhaps its time you leave swine.” Said the voice of the embodiment of the Highelf culture and it’s beauty, and that was Sumel Arksin. She was a absolute beauty and pure prodigy. Frieda and just about every other head family heir/heriess had one problem.or another with the Arksins, however it was always mainly with their first child, Sumel Arksin.
Sumel Arksin was not trouble, she instead was caution, she was neither an enemy as much a force of nature and she was never mean yet was always snobbishly honest.
Sumel was perfectly aware of her place in the pecking order and hierarchy of the city and the family Court, and although her actions were seen as cruel. She did not abuse her power, instead she simply just used it to it’s fullest. During one of her classes Sumel would encounter a young highelf who was talked highly amongst his peers. His name was a Chint Tess. There wasn’t any trouble he had or would encounter as he made his way up through the magical arts, however things would get serious when he would begin to be compared to Sumel. Once the rumors began to spread, Sumel would immediately act. However the way of battle would not be by that of any blade or spell, instead it would be through etiquette and polish. Sumel would invite Chint over for a luncheon at the Arksin estate.
There that evening, Chint would dine with thr Arksins for the first time. The Arksins were known very well for their level of superiority, but at most their leadership. During Chint’s temporary visit, he’d be met with all forms of ridicule and criticism.
“You don’t know how which spoon is for the soup and which is for main dish? Gosh you truly must be a sorrowful sort aren’t you. Dropped at birth I bet.” Said Sumel one moment.
“You have no class, you bounce around like your a child made of Pudding. Try and acting like a actual gent and I assure you, no matter the profession people will take you far more seriously...perhaps.” Sumel would say another.
“Sometimes I wonder, I wonder if all Highelves are stumbling oafs, or if that’s just you. Lets pray for the latter.” She’d say another moment. Both her and Chint were sitting down in the Arksin family parlor, covered lavishly with paintings of other Arksins of the past. The two sat just a few seats away.
Chint’s hands were a bit shaky, he was out of his element and depth.
“Your family name hold some girth in the underbelly of this city, especially in the lower ranks of the Altin Magic Academy.” Sumel said.
“Well I-”
“Keep in your lane Chint. Otherwise you’ll find yourself in places where you don’t want to be. Or...you’ll get attention you don’t want.” Sumel said as she put her hands together. Chint looked at her, his hands tried to stay form, yet shook nonetheless. “I...I-I won’t be threatened! You may believe your the best around here, but that’s all talk and rumor! I bet if I-” thats when Sumel would sit up and stare at Chint.
She then reached for her small staff and pointed at Chint’s chest. “I don’t take kindly to pompous nobodies, especially ones who think they have an edge over just cause of some damn practice.
No such thing as good practice or perfect practice. There’s only practice and me. Can you guess which side of the fence your on?” Sumel said. Chint’s eyes were frozen in fear, yet determination still laid in his heart.
“You put that staff down and you give me a fair fight, I’ll show what I can do.” Chint said.
“No such thing as fair either. A fight with me wouldn’t see me doing nothing other than burning you to ashes and getting my staff to clean up another mess.” Sumel said. Chint knew it at that point, she wasn’t just cruel, but unfair and the beating heart of her family.
It wouldn’t be long after their meeting that Sumel would then ban the Tess family from the city of Tescelava, supposedly rumors say it was due to harsh complaints on ethics.
