Haunting Aaliyah

Well there's no turning back now,and even if I wanted to I couldn't.

I made an oath to myself that I would not let any of my loved ones get involved with my bad habits and get tied up with dangerous people.

Not ever again.Not after what happened last time.

I would ask my family to help me, but I don't have that choice.

I was done wasting time looking like a nuisance,a weakling in their eyes.

I was done with the abuse.

18 years was already more than enough.

I was trapped, suffocating.

Its like I wasn't even apart of that family,I was just...there

So,I left.

The past didnt matter anymore.

I had a fresh start,a new home, A best friend named Olivia,and a job.

For 3 years I was living with my aunt,the only person in the family who was very dear to me.

Before her was my mother and she...went missing a few years back,but that story is not for your ears.

Life was perfect, peaceful.

A sensation I almost forgot existed.

But my 'perfect' life came crashing back down.

Once my aunt died from cancer,I discovered that she had a mountain of dept that she couldn't pay up before her death,dept you couldn't just pay over night.

So, I try my luck with gambling again, something my parents are strictly against,but what other option do I have?

Im about to lose my car,my house,my life.

I was confident in my skills, certain everything would work-until it didn't.

"Hahahaa Yesss!" Shouted the man across the table, slamming his drink on the table as he stood up, grinning ear to ear.

"The grudge, the rivalry I kept for half a decade has finally been satisfied!"

He said,as I cupped my face in my trembling hands.

"You know what that means Sesay"He says,pointing his girthy finger towards me."you owe me a fancy load of cash before the month ends!

Let's go boys!"

Cheering erupted from the men across the table as they exited the room.Leaving me in silence.

That night in my dark bedroom I laid in my bed staring at the ceiling in utter disbelief.I was horrified.

"Am I really going to lose everything"

I scrolled endlessly on my phone, while trying to put my mind at ease.

My last option was to get a job online that would pay a hefty amount of cash and fast.

I was desperatly looking for a job.One opportunity becoming less promising than the last

I put my phone down as I realized my heartbeat became louder than my thoughts, there were tears trickling down my cheeks onto my phone and the lump in my throat tightened and became unbearably painful

As I switched off my phone to place it down onto my nightstand

Ding

A notification pops up on my phone, lighting up my whole room.

My last form of hope was starring right back at me

The next day,at work:

"Aaliyah,I warned you not to try and gamble your way out of this." Olivia says while wiping the plates.

"I know Olivia but but I had no choice, you know how deep in dept I am and my "pay-date" is excruciatingly close." I reply, seated at the counter still staring at the notification.

"I understand and I do support you in this but,don't you think the job u accepted on Facebook is ridiculously sketchy?

I mean I definitely do." She says with crossed arms and furrowed brows.

"I thought so too but I'm only going to be gone babysitting for a week Liv, and they are going to pay me 30k per day!

Yes,I don't know what the family looks like yet but, I checked the moms profile and we talked on the phone,She said I was perfect for the job.

Her name is Santina and the kids name is Xander."

"And she wasn't sketchy at all?"

"Well, when I told her my age,she said it was perfect for Xander since he prefers younger nannies.

Also there was not many people who saw that post which is crazy because why wouldn't someone who's promising 30k a day not go viral?"

"And thats not eerie to you at all Lia?

Lia,For all we know you could possibly be "baby" sitting an adult man who still lives with his mommy and gets drunk all the time.

Or even better, this is just an elaborate plot to kidnap you?"

"I understand why you're on edge about this Liv,trust me I am too,but I have no choice.

I've made my decision,I'm already packing to leave to Ambodia, Velensing which is tomorrow"

Sigh

"I know Lia,I'm just really worried about you,this world is dangerous and you can't afford to be naive, I really want you to be safe"

"I know Liv" I force a smile."I'll be safe,i promise and I'll be waiting for you by the by the bus stop next week Friday."

"You better be Lia" She says as tears form in her green eyes, opening her arms for a deep long hug.

I spent the afternoon finishing up the last bit of packing I needed to do. I felt uneasy about the whole situation, almost as if I was making a huge mistake.

I started questioning if I had made the right decision.

But right now I didn't have the luxury of changing my mind.

"There's no turning back."
