When the bus stopped at Barton, the Bartholomew Hospital loomed over it like a dark cloud. Dot absentmindendly answered an ad to work as a nurse in the Hospital and a new start seemed bleak. But things took a surprising turn when she found out that a certain patient residing in the Bartholomew Hospital was responible for the dying of the small town of Barton. Accepting the challege to survive the notorious rumors of a certain patient number eight, Miss Valda June Wane, Dot starts to adjust to the Hospital's routine, eager to unfold the dark mystery surrounding the deaths of the previous caretakers looking after Valda. As truth about Valda and the Hospital starts to unfold, Dot's own beliefs start to crumble and doubt about everything she's uncovered seeps in. But thinking herself a monster as well, Dot is adamant to see herself as a victor, not as just another of Valda's victims.
