Chapter 1
The Deal of a Lifetime
Malissa sat in the corner of the dimly lit hospital waiting room, her heart pounding in her chest. Her grandmother, the only family she had left, lay unconscious in the ICU. The doctors had delivered the news just hours ago: she needed immediate surgery, and the cost was a staggering amount Malissa could never afford.
Her trembling hands clutched her phone as she scrolled through her contacts, searching for someone—anyone—who could lend her the money. Each call ended with the same polite refusal, and the weight of helplessness crushed her chest.
Just when she was about to give up, a man approached her. He was tall, dressed sharply in a black suit that seemed to absorb the light around him. His piercing green eyes were cold but held an air of authority.
"Miss Hart?" he asked, his voice deep and smooth, with an edge that made her shiver.
"Y-Yes," she stammered, standing awkwardly.
"I’m Lucian," he introduced himself. "I work for Damian Blackwood. He sent me to discuss... an opportunity."
The name alone sent a chill down her spine. Damian Blackwood. The heir to the Blackwood crime family—the most feared and powerful mafia in the country.
"I-I don't understand," she murmured, confusion and fear swirling inside her.
Lucian gave her a small, almost pitying smile. "Mr. Blackwood is aware of your situation. He knows about your grandmother's condition and your... financial troubles. He has a proposition for you."
Malissa’s pulse quickened. "What kind of proposition?"
Lucian handed her a sleek black envelope. "Read this and make your decision. But know this—once you agree, there’s no turning back."
With shaking fingers, Malissa opened the envelope and pulled out the letter. Her eyes scanned the elegant handwriting, disbelief washing over her with every word.
“Marry Damian Blackwood. Bear him an heir. In return, all your financial troubles will be taken care of, and your grandmother will receive the best medical treatment money can buy.”
Her knees buckled, and she sank back into the chair. The offer was absurd, terrifying even. But the promise of saving her grandmother was too tempting to ignore.
"Why me?" she whispered, more to herself than to Lucian.
"Mr. Blackwood believes you meet his... requirements," Lucian replied cryptically. "You have twenty-four hours to decide."
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Malissa alone with the weight of an impossible choice.
---
That night, Malissa sat by her grandmother's hospital bed, tears streaming down her face. She held the old woman’s frail hand, feeling the warmth that was fading too fast.
“I’ll save you, Grandma,” she whispered. “I’ll do whatever it takes.”
The next morning, Malissa found herself standing in front of a grand, sprawling mansion. The Blackwood estate loomed like a shadow, its darkened windows staring back at her like unblinking eyes. Her heart raced as Lucian escorted her inside, where Damian Blackwood waited.
He was seated in a high-backed leather chair, his figure radiating power and dominance. His black hair was neatly styled, and his green eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that made her knees weak.
"You must be Malissa," he said, his voice smooth yet commanding.
She nodded, unable to find her voice.
Damian stood and approached her, his presence overwhelming. He reached out, his fingers brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. "You’re even more beautiful than I imagined."
His words sent a shiver down her spine, though she couldn’t tell if it was fear or something else entirely.
"You’ve read the terms?" he asked, his gaze never leaving hers.
"Yes," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
"And your decision?"
Her throat tightened, and for a moment, she couldn’t breathe. But then she thought of her grandmother, of the life slipping away with every passing moment.
"I’ll do it," she said, her voice firmer now.
Damian’s lips curled into a small smile—not of joy, but of satisfaction. "Good. Welcome to my world, Malissa."
He stepped closer, his fingers tilting her chin up so she had no choice but to meet his gaze. "From this moment on, you belong to me."
As his lips brushed against hers in a fleeting but electrifying kiss, Malissa felt her heart pound harder than ever before. She had made her choice, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that her life was no longer her own.
Little did she know, she wasn’t stepping into a fairytale. She was walking straight into a storm—a storm of passion, danger, and secrets that would change her forever.
