Prologue
"They say I'm a monster, born from the sins of men. But when she looks at me, I see a reflection of redemption, a chance at salvation."
-Her
"I walked willingly into the lion's den, knowing full well the risks. But with him, even the most treacherous paths felt like home. A twisted paradise where danger and desire danced hand in hand."
The storm raged outside, its fury matching the chaos inside me. The wind howled like a living thing, battering the windows, while thunder cracked overhead, as if the heavens themselves were screaming in agony. But inside this room, it was silent. Too silent. The silence suffocated me, a stark contrast to the storm outside that seemed to echo the storm brewing within me.
I stood at the edge of the balcony, my hands gripping the stone railing so tightly that my knuckles were white. Below me, the world was a blur of rain and darkness, the distant flashes of lightning illuminating the shadows. But it didn't matter. I didn't care about the world anymore.
I didn't care about anything except him.
The truth was, I hated him. I hated the way he always seemed to be there, in the shadows, watching, waiting. I hated how I couldn't seem to escape him, no matter how far I ran, no matter how desperately I tried. And I hated how my body still responded to him, as if it knew something my mind refused to accept.
I had tried to run that morning. The coldness of the early hours had been the perfect cover, and I had used it to slip away from the house, my heart racing with the reckless hope that maybe, just maybe, I could escape him this time. The world outside had felt so vast, so free. For a moment, I had dared to believe in the possibility of a life without him. But of course, he had caught me. He always caught me. His presence had been like a shadow, following me, relentless and unyielding.
His hands had gripped me, yanking me back with a force that left no room for resistance. He hadn't said anything then. He didn't need to. His eyes-their cold, calculating gaze-had spoken for him. He had dragged me back, as if I were nothing more than a lost toy he'd decided to reclaim. There had been no time for punishment. Work had demanded his attention, and I had been left with nothing but the lingering knowledge that he would find time for that later.
Now, standing on the balcony, I could feel the weight of it all crashing down on me. I couldn't escape. I couldn't even hide. The storm outside, the one that seemed to echo the raging thoughts in my head, had nothing on the storm that was about to descend on me.
The sound of footsteps behind me shattered my thoughts, bringing me back to the present. They were steady, deliberate, each step a reminder that he was here, that he had found me again. My pulse quickened, and for a moment, I hated myself for it. How could I still be affected by him? How could I still feel this pull, this need, this unrelenting attraction that I couldn't escape?
"You thought you could run away from me?" His voice was low, a dark growl that seemed to vibrate in my bones. The words weren't a question. They were an accusation.
I swallowed hard, trying to steady my breathing, trying to make my body obey my mind. "I'm not running," I said, my voice barely more than a whisper, even though every part of me wanted to scream, wanted to run.
He smirked, the cruel twist of his lips sending a chill through me. "You don't have to run, sweetheart. You already belong to me. You've always belonged to me."
I shook my head, a desperate, instinctive motion. "No. I'm not yours."
But even as the words left my mouth, I knew they were a lie. The truth was written on every inch of my skin, in the way my heart clenched at his touch, in the way his presence made the world around me disappear. How could I deny it when everything in me screamed that I was already his? That I had been from the moment I had met him?
"You're lying," he murmured, his voice soft, but laced with a venomous sweetness. "You belong to me in every way. And you always will. No matter how far you go, no matter how hard you try to push me away, I will always find you. Because you need me. And you always will."
The words cut through me like a knife, each one sinking deeper into my chest. I trembled, my fists clenched at my sides, the weight of his words settling over me like a suffocating fog. "I don't need you," I spat, though the conviction behind the words was fading. The truth was slipping away, and I couldn't hold onto it anymore.
His smile twisted, filled with something darker, something far more dangerous. "You don't have a choice."
Before I could even react, he was in front of me, his hands on my waist, pulling me closer. The cold stone of the balcony pressed against my back, but I hardly noticed. His presence filled every space around me, suffocating me, controlling me. His lips hovered just inches from mine, and I could feel the heat of his breath, sending shivers down my spine.
"You think you can fight this?" he whispered, his voice low and dangerous. "You think you can fight me? I'll make you crave it. I'll make you beg for it."
And then his lips pressed against mine, soft at first, but with a hunger that quickly became overwhelming. A wave of something dark and intoxicating washed over me-something I couldn't escape, something I couldn't deny.
I couldn't fight him anymore. I couldn't even fight myself.
"Her eyes held entire galaxies, pulling me in with their gravitational force. I was lost, drowning in their depths, and I didn't care if I never resurfaced."
βHer Dashing Beast
"His presence was overwhelming, a storm that consumed my senses. I was both terrified and exhilarated, a ship weathering a tempest, praying I wouldn't capsize."
