Lovey Dovey At The Rink Centre.

The rink was alive with laughter and music, its ice shimmering under the glow of twinkling string lights. Clara tightened her scarf, peering nervously at the ice where skaters glided effortlessly. She wobbled just standing in her skates, gripping the wooden railing for dear life.

“You sure this is a good idea?” she muttered to her best friend, Ella, who was adjusting her earmuffs.

“Of course, it’s romantic! Besides, you’ve got to get out there eventually,” Ella said, gesturing toward the center of the rink where a ridiculously handsome man was skating backward, showing off to his friends.

Clara shook her head. “Not a chance. I’ll admire him from here. Safe and upright.”

Ella rolled her eyes. “Clara, you’ve been in love with Ethan since forever. Go talk to him! Or at least skate past him and pretend to accidentally fall—he’ll have to help you up!”

Clara groaned but took a hesitant step onto the ice. Her legs wobbled like spaghetti, and she immediately grabbed onto a nearby bench to steady herself. Skating clearly wasn’t her thing.

As she awkwardly shuffled forward, she heard a gentle laugh behind her.

“First time?”

She turned, almost slipping, and saw Ethan standing there, his warm hazel eyes sparkling with amusement.

“Oh, uh, yeah. First and probably last,” she stammered, cheeks blazing.

He smiled, effortlessly gliding closer. “It’s not so bad. Here, I’ll help you.”

Before she could protest, Ethan held out his hand. His touch was warm and steady, and for a moment, Clara forgot how to breathe.

“Just take small steps,” he encouraged. “And don’t look down. Trust your feet.”

With Ethan guiding her, Clara found herself laughing at her own clumsiness. She nearly took him down twice, but he caught her every time.

“See? You’re a natural,” he teased as they reached the center of the rink.

“Natural disaster, maybe,” she quipped, making him laugh.

Their laughter echoed under the lights, and Clara felt something magical about the moment—like the whole world had faded away, leaving just the two of them.

As the evening wore on, Ethan stayed by her side, holding her hand and teaching her how to skate. By the end of the night, Clara managed a full lap without falling, though Ethan’s hand never left hers.

When the rink started to close, Ethan walked her to the edge of the ice.

“You know,” he said, his voice soft, “I’ve been hoping for a chance to talk to you for months.”

Clara blinked in surprise. “Wait, what?”

He grinned. “You’re always at the coffee shop across from my office, reading those fantasy books. I wanted to say hi, but I figured you were too busy slaying dragons or saving kingdoms.”

She laughed, her heart fluttering. “And here I thought you were out of my league.”

“Out of your league?” Ethan scoffed. “You’re the most interesting person I’ve never met… until now.”

Her cheeks turned pink again, but this time, she didn’t look away.

“Well, now that we’ve officially met, maybe you can join me for coffee sometime,” she said, feeling bold.

Ethan’s smile widened. “How about tomorrow morning? My treat.”

“Deal,” Clara said, her heart soaring.

As they stepped off the rink, she couldn’t help but glance back at the ice. What started as a wobbly, nerve-wracking disaster had turned into something she’d never forget.

And for the first time in a long time, Clara felt like she wasn’t skating alone.

I agree with you Sarahlynn99. Seeing as I am an author and am friends of several, I just can't do anything that's AI assisted. Too many of us have had stuff stolen due to AI
