Chapter One: Shadows of the Café

Chapter One: Shadows of the Café At a worn-out wooden table, tucked away in the corner of a modest café where the weary sounds of the city seeped in, three young men in their late twenties sat, surrounded by empty tea glasses and scattered cigarette butts—like the remnants of their fading dreams. Unemployed, broke, and with nothing but their endless conversations oscillating between humor and harsh reality, they found solace in each other’s company.

“Guys, I swear, I’ve officially become part of the café’s décor. If someone tries to sell me with the table, I won’t even complain,” Khaled said, stretching out his tired legs and leaning back, hands behind his head in mock relaxation. He was the tallest among them, sporting a light beard and eyes that carried laughter despite the exhaustion beneath them.

Ayman smirked, slapping his palm against the table. “No, man, you’re an icon now! Customers walk in and greet you before they even order tea!”

Sami, the quietest of the three, absentmindedly stirred his spoon in his tea, as if searching for answers in the swirling sugar. Finally, he sighed and said, “We need to do something. We’ve been sitting here for months, laughing and joking, but the truth is, we’re drowning. We need to find a way out of this darkness.”

Silence fell over them for a moment, as if they had all suddenly realized that their lives weren’t moving forward, just spinning in circles. But Khaled, as always, wasn’t one to let the silence linger. He leaned in with a grin and said, “Alright, so what’s the plan? Rob a bank? Sell tea with Uncle Yasser? Or maybe enter the Great Escape competition from reality?”

Ayman burst into laughter, slapping Khaled on the shoulder. “I think we should make a movie about our lives, call it ‘The Three Beggars,’ and sell it to Netflix!”

But Sami didn’t laugh this time. There was something different in his eyes—a spark of an idea, or perhaps sheer madness. He put his cup down firmly and said, “Why not? Not a movie, but why don’t we write something? Publish something? The world runs on stories these days... Maybe our story will reach someone. Maybe that’s our way out!”

Khaled and Ayman exchanged glances. For a moment, it wasn’t clear whether they were amused or actually considering it.

What they didn’t know was that this moment would be the beginning of something far beyond their expectations…
