But is the very job that she loves and holds so dear, really what it is cracked up to be? Is she truly working on the correct side? Perhaps everything she has built up until this point, was a lie. Chapter 1: Crystallized

It was time to check up on subject 090197JJ.

Grabbing my clipboard from the desk and a pen from my pocket, I make my way to the testing chamber. On the way there, I pass by the lead director of this project.

As he approaches, I try to put forth the usual greeting, by simply nodding my head at him in acknowledgment and smile.

"Director." I say quickly.

He nodded back and gave me a smile.

"Good morning, Miss Sorin. How are you today?" He grinned. He seemed a bit way too happy, today. But, I humored him and decided to answer him.

"Good morning, director Lear. I'm fine, thanks."

I say quietly and keep my head down to try and keep walking; scribbling some important info onto my clipboard. But instead of him going by and going about his business, he retracted a bit and came closer to me.

"Everything in order to test subject 090107JJ?"

I lift my head to look at him. "Yes, it is all set up. Now if you will excuse me, I really should be on my way. I have to go to the testing chambers and await for the delivery of the subject."

My previous happy smile, was replaced by an emotionless expression. I was all business today.

Director Lear bowed and laughed.

"Yes yes. Of course, Sorin! Pardon me for keeping you. I hope all goes well in testing. He is a tricky one. . . very vile and unpredictable."

"Thank you, Director. I am aware of how his behavioral skills are. I will take the most precautions as I can."

I waved him off and walked away, finally arriving at my destination.

Testing room A - 2

No one was here yet. I couldn't go inside until the patient was brought inside and properly nerfed and hooked up. To kill some time, I leaned back against the wall near the security clearance door. I began to jot down some early notes on the subject.

Pretty soon, before I know it, I hear several footsteps from down the hall followed by the sounds of doors and buzzers.

At that moment, I realized Subject 090197JJ is being transported here by the guards.

I pull myself away from the wall to stand up straight again, greeting the operatives.

"Morning, Nas." I said to the first guard.

"Miss Sorin." He responded.

I turn to gaze at the other guards and met them with polite nods as well.

After the exchange of pleasantries, as they all filed in to the testing room, the next in line was the subject.

He was wearing an electronic straight jacket purposefully programmed to hinder the flow of his powers and psychic abilities.

His ankles were chained and bound to prevent him from running away.

It was made out of pure energy. The object was rigged to sever his feet if he tried to flee and the alarm was triggered.

Perhaps, it was a bit of an inhumane safety precaution, but it is highly necessary for extreme cases.

He was being walked right by me by two heavily armed guards at his side. He turned his head toward me and smiled at me with the usual, creepy smirk he flashes at me every time he is near me.

And every time, it would always send shivers down my arms and legs. Sometimes I can hardly believe how young he was. It never ceases to amaze me. Despite his young age, and his boyish appearance, his aura and the air around him gives off a strange presence similar to that of an older male. As if he was an old spirit inside of a young adult.

I do my best not to dwell on such notions. He is, overall, just a patient.

Just a subject.

He's just a murderous creature.

Or rather, that is just what the company wants us to believe.
