Nan Feng stood in the dimly lit conference room, the shadows from the low-hanging lights casting a slight contour over his figure. His gaze pierced through the large windows, as if pondering something deep and far-reaching. And as its director, he was burdened with the unprecedented responsibility it entailed.
“We are gathered here today not just to establish an office or an organization,” Nan Feng’s voice was low but carried a sharp clarity, reverberating in the confined space. “The purpose of this Bureau is singular—to handle what ordinary people cannot understand, what they can’t even imagine. The supernatural isn’t a myth. It’s a reality.”
He paused, his eyes sweeping across the room, making eye contact with each individual present. “In the tasks ahead, we will face demons, ghosts, extraterrestrials, and perhaps other beings beyond our comprehension. Each one of you is a person I have chosen for this very reason.”
As Nan Feng spoke, the atmosphere in the room grew heavier. Everyone sat still, each person silently listening. The air hummed with a palpable tension, something unspoken hanging in the space.
“My name is Nan Feng, director. You may have many questions, but here, the only answer I can give you is this—everything we do here is for the future.” After speaking, he waved his hand lightly, signaling to the large screen on the wall. A list of names appeared.
“I’ll give you a brief introduction so you can get to know each other better.”
The first name on the list was Ava Liu. She stood up, her expression cool and composed. “I’m Ava Liu. My specialty is handling tasks related to ghosts and extraterrestrials. I can sense the unique energies that these entities emit and communicate with them. I joined the Bureau because of my past experiences with these supernatural beings.”
Her gaze was firm, and her words, though few, silenced the room. Then, Sophie Lee stood up. Her voice was soft, but there was an undeniable strength beneath it.
“I’m Sophie Lee. I specialize in dealing with demons and magical creatures. My abilities include exorcism and basic magical attacks. My family background has led me to these matters from a young age, which has allowed me to gain the ability to confront such beings.”
One by one, the other members introduced themselves. Ethan Wood, with his expertise in dealing with extraterrestrials and elves; Jason Lee, whose battle experience and strength made him an invaluable asset in combat situations; Maya Wang, who had a natural affinity with beasts and monsters; and Isabella Chen, whose mastery of magic and advanced spells made her an expert in supernatural phenomena. Each introduction further solidified the serious tone in the room.
Nan Feng looked around at the team before him, each person possessed of unique and powerful abilities. He knew that these individuals would be key in the challenges ahead.
“Remember, we are here for one shared purpose—to face the unknown and protect the future,” Nan Feng’s voice deepened. The weight of responsibility was palpable, and every gaze was fixed on him. The pressure was so thick it seemed to freeze the air.
“We will undergo the strictest training, familiarizing ourselves with one another’s methods of operation. No one here is working alone. Only through collaboration can we handle the coming crises.”
Just as Nan Feng finished his sentence, the piercing sound of an alarm echoed through the building. Its shrill tone was unsettling, almost as if a bad omen was about to unfold.
“What’s going on?” Ethan Wood frowned, looking out of the window, clearly confused.
Nan Feng’s eyes narrowed as he strode toward the door. “It seems our first mission has arrived... prematurely.”
Ava Liu immediately stood, adjusting her gear. “Director, we’re ready to move out.”
“Follow me,” Nan Feng said, his tone decisive. Without another word, he led the way, with the team trailing closely behind. The tension was rising, each person acutely aware that this wasn’t just another ordinary task. This was the first mission of Bureau No. 9, and it was a significant moment in their journey.
As they made their way toward the exit, Ava and Sophie exchanged a glance. It was clear that they were already sensing something unusual—something dangerous—was unfolding.
