I Confess My Sins

My name is Lucius Vallum XIV and if you are reading this then all is lost.

As I write this I can hear the screams of countless men, soldiers and civilians alike. Women slaughtered in their own homes. Babies crying as they are gutted in their cribs. It is in this last moment of defiance and desperation I confess my sins to whomever may come across this forsaken place.

My kingdom is burning. Our valiant efforts to turn back the onslaught of demonic monstrosities of untold and unspeakable horror. It is with the greatest of pain I confess that it is by my hand that such twisted horrors enter our world to pollute our beautiful lands with their perverted magic. Their tainted machinations will spread and it is all my fault.

My quest for wealth of knowledge has blinded me and I plunged my city, my kingdom into chaos. It began with the discovery of a hidden chamber in the castle's extensive library. Tomes from ages long past stored and cared for by the greatest and most delicate of scholars that this land could provide.

I had uncovered that portal to the great beyond. A cosmic rift of such magnitude that I dare not speak of in detail lest my mind be wrought by its evil.

My lust for power corrupted me. It blinded me from all the warnings as I pressed on to uncover the secrets of the chalk cast mosaics that lay in the solitude of that hidden study. As we uncovered more and more relics and ruins that awaited beyond that initial archive.

It had become apparent to all that were involved in this excavation that my mind had been taken by the powerful eldritch magic of these mysterious catacombs. My colleagues and advisers had become increasingly disturbed. But alas their concern was dismissed.

In my arrogance I opened that portal to the cosmic void between worlds and unleashed the horrors that lay within. What came next was an endless battle. My city was in ruins. They hit us faster than we could comprehend. They took the center and spread like a virus through the city.

Many perished from the creatures' reckless and blind stalk through the streets. Others lost their mind from just the mere incomprehensible form of these beasts. There power was far to great than we could ever imagine.

As I sit here and write this my body soaks with blood. My vision blurs. I see the fires of a holocaust stretching as far as my expiring eyes will see.

I am so sorry...

I beg of whoever reads this... Please... End this. Turn back the horrors. Save us all. Before there isn't anything left to save.
