Summary

Alex Dubois never expected an old journal to change their life, let alone connect them to someone living a hundred years in the past. When they start exchanging messages with Claude Lublin, a struggling architecture student in 1900s Paris, their lives become entangled across time. As their conversations deepen, so does their bond. They share their dreams, fears, and the mysteries of their timelines. And with each message, the mystery deepens: why can they talk to each other and what happens when ink on paper is no longer enough?

Before you start

Hi!

First of all, thank you so much for giving my story a chance! It means a lot to me that you’re here and I hope you’ll stick with me all the way to the end! But before you dive in, I need to share a few notes:

1- I don’t aim to be a writer and English is not my first language. The only thing people expect from me is to write code, and that’s the only thing that I have confidence in. I do, however, want to tell you a story. This story is very personal to me, and I put all my heart into writing it. I don’t want this book to be unpleasant for you, so I’ll correct all grave mistakes when you find them as soon as possible if you give me a heads up.

2- I need you to be 18 years old or older to read this book. Not because of grotesque scenes, but to understand the life-stage and situations the characters are. I’ll also address themes such as on homophobia, misgendering and depression, but I’ll put a big warning sign at the very beginning if the last one is explicit.

3- Word count was not something that I took into consideration. Each chapter has a purpose: introducing characters, explaining their quirks, showing the magic system, etc. At this moment, it would be very hard to split the chapter into smaller ones. That being said, please expect an average of 5000 words per chapter. I do understand this makes this book not mobile friendly and not suitable for web novels, so I’m not completely discarding to revisit this issue in the future.

4- This story is very descriptive and in third person. I’m not saying that every cobblestone in the story will have a deep meaning behind it, but I tend to imagine what I’m reading as if it was a comic strip, and this was reflected in the way that I wrote.

5- This story is AI assisted. It took me months refining each scene that relies heavily on body language, and each iteration I asked AI to draw what it could understand from the paragraphs. Most of the time, my writing was not clear enough and I had to re-write them over and over. Because I’m not a writer, I still need someone, or something, to proof read my work, and there’s where I used AI. I could have used it to make my English more understandable and correct for you, but I didn’t.

6- This is a queer romance. If this type of romance is against your personal beliefs, I kindly ask you to stop reading my book.

If you’re still here after reading all these notes, I can only wish that you have a great time reading as much as I did writing!
