Chapter 1
LEVI
I stared contently as my friends kicked and punched Harper. He rolled to his side, a bit of blood streaming down the side of his mouth. He groaned and moaned in pain. The sound echoed off the walls. I whistled, signalling for Nolan, Cole and Ezra to stop. The victim coughed, weakly. The guys forced him to stand up meeting my death stare. Fear bloomed in his brown eyes. My hand went through my soft, black hair.
“Never disrespect me, again.” I warned him.
As my piercing gaze met his hazel eyes he trembled. He ran as fast as his legs could carry him, shivering along the way. I smirked, maliciously. No one will ever disrespect me again. The bothersome bell could be heard from every corner of the school. I walked at a leisurely pace towards class. I walked upstairs with my friends behind me. As I walked, I saw fear presented in everyone’s eyes. From the corner of my eyes, I saw a couple of girls in awe.
As expected, as I made my grand entry to class, Mr Diago greeted me. Everyone’s beady eyes were on me except the deaf girl as usual. Everyone was swarming in desperate of my attention like a moth drawn to a flame, but she always was on her own minding her own business which struck to me as interesting. She sat at the back of the classroom looking outside the window. The gale whipped around her, gently. After I settled, Mr Diago pursued his class.
“Where’s micah?” I questioned my gang.
Micah strolled into class with multiple wounds. Most of the class gasped. I sat forward.
“Who?” I demanded.
“Carter.” He answered.
Soon, the irritating bell rang through school, ending history class. At break, I went to the isolated school alleyway - which separated the playground and the main school- with my gang. Carter had a smug smile plastered on his face. He was talking with Harper, blissfully. I was boiling like hot water in rage. Ezra handed me a cricket bat. I hit Carter with it several times before punching him to the pulp. Then, my friends started kicking Carter whilst I observed them.
The deaf girl, Elara walked into the alleyway, carrying two books in her arms whilst talking with Nolan. Her black hair glittered in the radiating sun. Her hazel eyes were glued to the books she was holding. Her smile was sweet as candy. As soon as she neared, I raised my hand signalling for my gang to stop beating the victim. Once she passed, I signalled for them to pursue. At break, I played basketball with my friends. No one had the courage to go against me so I played with my mates.
Beads of sweat dripped from my forehead as I aimed for the basketball hoop. I threw the basketball swiftly and it went through the hoop. My friends cheered for me, cheerfully. After a while, I sat on the bench drinking my juice whilst chatting away to my gang. Ezra planned to have another party but I didn’t feel like going to a party today.
I watched as other players continued to play basketball. Suddenly, I heard a shriek. I look towards the direction of the scream. It was one of the drama queens, Carly. She yelled as a tiny, hairy monster went under her legs. Her friend Bittany was astonished. Everyone moved closer and so did I. What was a cute pomeranian doing alone? Students made noises to attract the dog’s attention.
The huge crowd made way for me. But when I reached the cute dog, a girl was already on her knees. Her back was facing me. She patted her lap three times, gently. Gracefully, the pomeranian sat down in her lap whilst she cuddled the dog. People started making cute noises, which alerted the pomeranian who started to bark at people.
Her hair was black as the clothes I would wear. Her brown eyes blinked slowly at the cute dog. At that moment, the kind hearted girl looked at her claustrophobic surroundings. It was Elara and I could tell she felt uneasy. She began to whistle a beautiful melody which silenced the people spectating and calmed the little cute dog. Elara got up to her feet and began to walk when everyone started to question her rights of the dog with enthusiasm. She walked away briskly but people kept charging after her.
“Clear the crowd.” I ordered.
“Move! Go away!” My gang choroused.
I watched her go. She cuddled the cute, little dog. Once the crowd cleared, I walked away with my gang but was quickly forced by my conscience as people crowded her once more where she was sitting alone on the bench. She cleaned the adorable puppy with her water bottle and dried him with her jumper. Unlike the others she proved that she had a heart full of gold.
“Is that her pet?” I questioned my friends.
“I don’t know.” Cole replied.
“That’s her dog. It’s so stupid and ugly.” Carly commented.
“Cats are better.” Brittany added.
🗡️
The following day, at 2 pm I was walking up the stairs with my friends to the playground after beating up Nolan. I saw Elara walking down the stairs carrying books with her. Harper dropped his bag causing his books to fall down the stairs. Elara put her books to one side and helped Harper to gather his things together. She gave him a cute, polite smile as she handed them back to him.
I couldn’t believe she just helped Harper, the guy who disrespected me and Micah. She examined her books as she walked past me. Her brown eyes were glued to the books. She looked outside the window at the playground. It looked like ants were running everywhere. She waved at Nolan who was waiting for her outside. She waved back and briskly made her way towards him. I observed them as they walked together to class.
