Chapter 1

One-eye

Another sunset behind me as I felt the rumble of my motorcycle underneath me. It had been a couple of hours since we stopped to take a break. To be honest, I could ride non-stop into the night. The open road cleared my mind, I didn’t have to think about anything but as soon as I stopped, my thoughts came rushing back.

Over the past six months, it has been hell for the club and for me. Six months ago the Armoured Beasts Maine charter lost two club members. Grizzly and Jigsaw.

They were my mentors when I was prospecting for the club. Just before I was voted in to be a full-patch member I had a job to protect Minx, my president’s sister but of course a rival club decided to visit us. I was thrown through a window leaving me scarred all over my body from the broken glass.

Turns out glass had damaged my left eye, leaving me with a nasty scar over my eye. But I would do it again in a heartbeat to protect my family. The Armoured Beast MC was my family. This was how I had gotten my road name - One-eye. I could barely see out of my left eye, it’s all blurry now but I wouldn’t change a thing. I never once blamed Minx or the club for this, this was how things happened in life. I wanted to be in this club so I knew things were going to happen. Bad things.

Once we hit our hometown, we all headed towards the clubhouse. I backed my bike up into line next to Cerberus when we pulled into the compound. We had just come back from the yearly charity event that gets held in Indiana. A few of the prospects had been voted to full patch members now but it will never be the same without Jigsaw and Grizzly. I remained sitting on my bike until Skinhead came over with Books.

“Wanna go to the diner to get something to eat?” He asked me. Normally I would just go inside and sit at the bar all night, drinking myself numb but I was starting to hungry so I nodded my head. I started my motorcycle once again and followed after Skinhead and Books.

Pulling into the local diner, I pulled off my helmet and let it hang on my handlebars before I threw my leg over the bike. As I followed Skinhead and Books inside I ran my hand through my hair. Stepping inside the warm diner I looked around as it was busy with people having their dinner. I felt Skinhead pat me on the shoulder before he walked off saying hello to the owner of the diner.

Many people knew who we were but there were a few that stopped and stared as we made our way over to a booth. I took a seat next to Skinhead as Books sat across from us. Over the last six months, it looked like Books had barely slept. Everyone knew he had a lot going on, from trying to find who had shot up the clubhouse, killing both Jigsaw and Grizzly along with prospects to his sister now turning to drugs. But soon he was going to burn out.

“Hi guys, sorry about the wait. What can I get for you tonight?” I heard a waitress ask from beside me. When I looked up at her she had a smile on her face, holding a notepad and pen in her hands.

“A couple of burgers and chips, darling” Skinhead spoke up.

“Sure, anything to drink?” She asked us, once we told her what we wanted she gave me a wink and turned to leave. I had watched her rushing back to the kitchen to give our order to the cook. From what I saw her hair was dark brown or black and pulled back in a short ponytail.

“Checking out the new waitress?” Skinhead nudged my shoulder, making me turn away from the busy customers and towards my VP.

“What? No” I said instantly.

“Was it just me or was he checking her out?” Skinhead asked Books. I shook my head as they both chuckled. A few minutes later the waitress came back over and gave us our plates of food along with our drinks.

“Your shout, man”, Skinhead said as he patted me on the shoulder.

“It was your idea,” I said to him.

“Yeah but you see I have a misses at home and so does Books. Plus the guys think you need to get laid” Skinhead said with a smirk. I glared at my brothers. I knew they were only joking around trying to keep everything light when really we were all still hurting. I sighed and slammed back my soda before I got up and grabbed the check.

Once I got to the counter to pay the bill, the girl that took our order was standing there with the owner Lenny. “Hey One-eye, how was the charity run?” Lenny asked me.

“Good, good to be back home though,” I said as I slid the check across the counter towards the girl. “That’s good, say hello to your dad for me”, Lenny said, I nodded my head before he returned back to the kitchen. I pulled out my wallet and took some cash before handing it to the short girl in front of me.

Once she took it, she tried to hand back the change “Keep it” I told her, giving her a wink with my good eye. I turned and left the diner, making my way over to my motorcycle.

“Did ya get her number?” Books asked me, making Skinhead chuckle but I just rolled my eyes and climbed onto my bike. I turned my head towards the diner, the girl was going from table to table talking with the customers before she looked through the glass at me. Under the lights of the diner, I saw her smile but something flashes through her eyes before she quickly turned away and got back to work.
