Capítulo 1: Castigo con olor a café

La vida huele a desinfectante y café frío cuando no tienes nada que esperar. Así huele este salón. Así huele mi cabeza desde hace meses.

Un lugar lleno de pupitres rayados, paredes que han escuchado más gritos que palabras, y un profesor que parece más cansado de la vida que nosotros mismos. Este taller de escritura “correctiva” es el castigo que me colgaron por romper la regla número uno de la preparatoria: no meterse en problemas.

No sé bien qué hice para merecer esto. Tal vez la última pelea con mi abuela, o un comentario demasiado honesto en clase de historia. O tal vez solo soy yo, y el sistema quiere que me calle.

Entonces entra Julián. Llega tarde, sin pedir permiso, sin mirar a nadie, con esa sonrisa que te promete desastre y te lo vende con carita de niño perdido. Tiene el pelo revuelto, los jeans rotos y esa actitud de “no me importa nada”. Me cae mal. Me cae bien. No puedo decidir.

Se sienta en el rincón más oscuro del salón, cruzando los brazos como si quisiera desafiar al mundo entero. Yo lo miro desde lejos, intentando que no se note que mis ojos se clavan en él más de lo que deberían. Él tampoco mira al frente, pero siento que me está midiendo, como si quisiera adivinar qué demonios hago aquí.

El profesor nos lanza la tarea del día: escribir sobre un momento que no podamos olvidar. Me niego, claro. ¿Para qué poner por escrito lo que me duele? Pero el papel en blanco me llama, y termino dejando caer palabras torpes que saben a rabia. Julián apenas escribe unas líneas, pero cuando él termina, siento que el silencio se vuelve pesado.

No hay voluntarios para leer en voz alta. Nadie quiere mostrar las heridas que llevan escondidas. Yo me río, burlona, pensando que ellos no saben nada. Pero entonces Julián lo hace. Su voz es áspera, casi rota. Habla de una noche sin techo, sin rumbo, solo lluvia que no perdona.

Algo en mí se rompe. No es compasión ni tristeza. Es algo más viejo, un eco que había enterrado con rabia.

Al salir del salón, nuestros caminos se cruzan. Me mira, y yo lo ignoro, aunque mi cuerpo grita lo contrario.

Odio admitirlo, pero en su voz hay algo que me recordó que estoy viva.
