Summary

They were best friends once - the kind of bond built from teenage dreams, late-night talks, and quiet understanding. But life, as it always does, got in the way. A sudden twist of fate pulled them apart - cities changed, numbers got lost, and time swept in like a storm, leaving only memories behind. No texts. No calls. No closure. Just a silent hope tucked deep within their hearts. Now, ten long years later, destiny decides it's time. They're meeting again - older, maybe a little more guarded, but still carrying pieces of each other like invisible scars and soft smiles. Their bond, once strained by distance and time, hasn't weakened - it's grown stronger, matured in silence. And as their eyes lock after a decade, it's not just a reunion. It's a moment that feels like healing. ----------

Chapter 1

Standing at a distance, their eyes met... even after a decade, they knew...

Ji-won stood rigid as he was shocked, whereas Seung-ho had tears in his eyes but wiped them before they could fall and smiled at Ji-won. The smile he always admired

Seung-ho hurried after him, catching up just before Ji-won could even do anything. Without a word, he gently grabbed his wrist and led him into a quiet, tucked-away corner of the gallery — behind a tall display wall, hidden from view.

Then, as if he’d been holding it in for ten whole years, he wrapped his arms around him — tight, trembling, breathless.

After a decade, he got his love, and his every wish came true; he forgot all of his worries and just felt the moment.

Ji-won was shocked, but the hug made him come to reality, so he gave in and hugged him back, putting his head on his shoulder, to which Seung-ho smiled and patted his head.

″You’re late.. ″Ji-won complained, making Seung-ho chuckle lightly

″I know, hmm, and I am sorry about that″Seung-ho apologised, knowing his behaviour well..

For a long moment, there was only silence — except for the soft sound of Ji-won sniffling, his fingers clutching Seung-ho’s jacket tightly like he was afraid to let go again

Now, standing in his arms again, it almost didn’t feel real.

Ji-won pulled back slightly, enough to look at him. His cheeks were flushed, eyes glossy, lips trembling into the tiniest smile.

“You look older,”he said, voice still soft, teasing.

Seung-ho let out a shaky laugh, brushing a thumb under Ji-won’s eye.

"but you’re still the same

Still cute when you cry though.”

Ji-won chuckled , wiping his eyes with the sleeve of his oversized sweater.

“You missed a lot, dummy.” ji won complained again

“I’ll catch up. I swear I will.”

They stood there for another second, hearts still catching up with the moment their bodies had already embraced.

Then suddenly—Ji-won’s phone buzzed. Loudly.

He flinched, breaking eye contact as he fumbled into his pocket.

One look at the screen, and his expression tensed.

“Crap...”he whispered.“It’s an emergency. I—I have to go.”

Seung-ho stepped back, just slightly, concern flickering in his eyes.

“Is everything okay? Do you want me to come—”

Ji-won shook his head quickly, already backing away.

“No, no... just—just something at work.”

Then, almost hesitating, he looked up again and softened.

“I’m sorry.”

Seung-ho gave a small nod, masking the disappointment behind a soft smile.

“Wait—at least give me your number.”

Ji-won paused mid-step, then sighed like he was annoyed... but the corner of his mouth twitched into a faint smile.

“Fine. But don’t expect me to answer everytime, okay?”

He saved his number into Seung-ho’s phone, typed fast and awkward like he was trying not to look too sentimental.

“... I’ll text you_hmm?”Seung-ho asked.

“You better,”Ji-won mumbled.

He lingered for a second. Just a second.

And then he was gone — footsteps echoing faintly as he slipped through the quiet halls of the gallery.

Seung-ho stood still, phone in hand, Ji-won’s contact glowing softly on his screen like a second chance.

The silence of the exhibition felt louder now. Like the room had just exhaled after holding its breath for them.

He looked toward the doorway where Ji-won had disappeared and smiled faintly to himself.

“You waited ten years,”he whispered, voice barely louder than a thought.“I won’t make you wait anymore.”

---------

on the other hand ji won reached the hospital parked his car and ran as fast as he could ,changed in scrubs gushed out of the room

The trauma nurse hurried to him, her voice steady but urgent as she reported,“Doctor, we have a 32-year-old male involved in a motorcycle accident. His Glasgow Coma Scale is 8, breathing shallow, blood pressure dropping to 90 over 60, and his pulse is 130 and thready. He has multiple abrasions and a suspected pelvic fracture. Oxygen saturation is 88% on room air.”

ji-wonnodded thoughtfully, his eyes scanning the patient quickly before uttering,

“Any signs of airway compromise? What about his pupils?”

The nurse responded without hesitation,“The airway is partially patent but noisy respirations suggest obstruction. Pupils are sluggish with the left one dilated.”

he questioned further,“Did the scan reveal any free fluid?”

The nurse answered ,“no”

He nodded again and said,“Prepare for rapid sequence intubation. Get blood products ready. Notify the OR-this patient goes straight to surgery if he crashes.”

The nurse confirmed,“IV lines are established, oxygen is started, and Foley catheter is ready.”

his eyes sharpened as he moved into action,“Let’s move fast.”

after a few hours...

The operation room fell silent except for the steady beep of the heart monitor.ji won wiped sweat from his brow, eyes still sharp but tired.

He glanced at the clock-hours had passed in a blur of precision and pressure.“Nurse, prepare to close,”he ordered calmly, his voice steady despite the exhaustion.

he stepped out, peeling off his gloves and mask, pausing a moment to catch his breath.

---

Washing his hands meticulously, he scrubbed away the grime and tension from hours in the OR, the sterile smell filling the room.

Just as he dried them and reached for his phone, the sharp ring broke the brief calm.

He glanced at the screen - another emergency call.

With a deep breath, he steeled himself and strode out of the operating room, ready to face whatever came next.

------

The hospital had grown quieter now, the chaos simmered down to soft footsteps and the occasional distant cough.

It was well past midnight.

The lights buzzed faintly above as ji won walked the empty hallway, his steps slow, his scrubs wrinkled and stained from hours in the OR.

The operation was a success. At least, that’s what he told the family. But the weight of every cut, every risk, still clung to his shoulders.

He stepped into the locker room, peeling off his gloves, the surgical mask hanging loose around his neck.

The silence wrapped around him like a blanket - comforting, but heavy.

He washed his hands again, more out of habit than need, watching water swirl down the sink like time slipping away.

Just as he sat down, head against the wall, letting his eyes close for maybe a second-

His phone buzzed against the bench.

Unknown Number:“Incoming trauma. Multiple patients. ETA 6 mins.”

He stared at the message.

He stood up.

Adjusted his coat.

And walked right back into the storm.

and it was just one of many days.
