Chapter 1
The last thing David recalled was seeing a red-hot ball of flames sent his way, and then there was a boom. The next he knew, he was sent flying to the wall before proceeding to crash down hard on the floor.
His surroundings began to blur, with the only thing he could faintly make out being the raging flames that danced around him along with the faint shadow standing amidst them. Watching with fiery red dragon eyes.
“Get up,” Flani spoke, her red fiery gaze locked onto him as he lay on the ground.
David then let out a breath and got back on his feet.
Pillars came from all directions. Slamming, pounding, and sending flying, and then crashing down to the ground.
David’s gaze blurred once more, only able to make out faintly the blurred shadow standing before him, watching with calm with a pair of brown draconian eyes.
“Get up,” Richard spoke, his words as calm as his gaze.
David, with gritted teeth, rose back up to his feet.
He felt the water fill his lungs as the current thrashed him about. Slamming her over and over again into the wall before slamming her down to the ground with a slash.
With rushing out of his mouth, he looked up to meet the gaze of a pair of blue dragon eyes looking down at his with a gentle smile.
“Get up,” Boma said with a gentle smile on her face.
David wiped away the water on his lips and pushed himself back up.
The wind blew fast and hard. Unrelenting and strong. And before he knew it, David had left the ground. Flung up like a doll by the wind. Flip, throw, and spin around in every direction before finally being forced down.
Feeling every muscle of him crying in pain and agony. He raised his head to meet the cold, almost lifeless gaze of a pair of white dragon eyes.
“Get up,” said Araban in a hush and yet cold tone.
David then took in a breath and got back up.
For a month now…
David flying by another fireball.
…this was his life.
Pounded and slammed by a massive stone pillar.
…in the morning after having breakfast with friends… And Steven, he would have to go for his special training. Where he would have to study the dragon chronicles. Learning about the past Golden Dragon Warriors.
And then…
The waters flung and spun David senselessly.
…all hell would break loose.
Wind blew fast past him. Blowing with so much force that it made him lose his footing and stumble, only to fling him high up before he could fall.
You see, David was a normal boy.
But David, after being burnt to a crisp, squashed, almost drowning, and flung about senseless, always got back up.
He was a dragon warrior.
Inhale.
David shut his eyes.
But not quite like other dragon warriors.
Exhale.
He opened eyes that had now transformed into golden dragon eyes.
Was she the son of Ibierana, the Golden Dragon Warrior who gave her life to stop the Dark Dragon Lord and his army of dark dragon warriors from devastating and almost destroying the elven world?
His body began to faintly glow with a golden aura. His wounds then began to heal.
He inherited the power of the elements she once wielded.
Fire
His fist engulfed in flames. And then, with a simple stump of his feet. The floor below him burst with flames that propelled him forward, straight for Flani.
Earth.
His body turned to stone as a pillar made its way to him. Striking but standing stiff, firm, and motionless. Sense through the movement of the earth around him. He raised a hand, and a stone wall formed to protect him from the pillar that was rammed into his side.
Water.
The rage water came for him, but with just a glance and a flick of the wrist, it instead swirled, twisted, and turned around him.
Air.
David clamped his palms together. A dense ball of air then formed around, fighting away the powerful gust of wind blowing against him.
But apart from the powers of the elements, David also inherited another power from his mother.
He shut his eyes and focused. Clamping an arm shut and feeling the power flowing deep within. A power that could only manifest when all four were in harmony and perfect balance with each other.
His golden aura flared up as four elemental rings began to form around him. One of fire, another of water, one of air, and the other of earth. Each of them swirling and spinning around him. The four elements he commanded, and then the fifth ring began to form.
Flicking in and out of form like a restless ember waiting to ignite. The greatest power the world ever knew, a power that not only represented hope but was the embodiment of peace and unity.
David then slowly began to open up his hands. And upon doing so, radiant golden rays escaped from it.
Richard, Flani, Boma, and Araban just stood by the side. Unable to believe it even though they were witnessing it at that very moment. The glow they had once believed had departed from their world. And even though it was small and weak, they could feel the familiar warmth radiating off from it. It was the golden power.
“Good, and now try to summon even more power,” said Richard.
David then took a deep breath and kept focusing. Trying to summon even more power. The glow then brightened with immense power emitting from David. David could feel the power’s comfort flowing through him. It felt calm and peaceful. Feeling his body with a peace he had never known before.
That was when he felt it…
“Let. Me. OUT!!!!!!!”
David’s eyes sprung open, and for a moment, he felt his aura switch from golden to violet along with the glow on his hand before it faded away.
He then collapsed on his knees, panting profusely out of exhaustion.
“No again,” he spoke, his voice hushed as he bowed his head.
You see, apart from the elemental and golden power David inherited from his mother. He also possessed something else. Something dark.
A power unlike any other. Savage and chaotic, a destructive power that connected to the Dark Dragon Lord. The very man his mother gave her life to end.
It was more like a curse than anything else. He constantly feels it faintly, gnawing and clawing at him from the inside. Trying to take control, to take over. And if it were to ever do so…
“Let me OUT!!!!!!!”
“David”
David jolted up to the concerned face on none other than Richard staring back at him.
“Headmaster,” he quickly got up.
“Are you okay?” Richard asked, his voice filled with concern.
“Yeah, I guess I’m still not used to using the golden power yet,” said David while scratching the back of his head with a playful grin on his face.
Richard just let out a sigh before saying, “Alright, that’s enough training for today.”
They all then made their way out of the Golden Den. A special place built along to train the Golden Dragon Warriors of every generation. Walking past the hall, filled with statues of every other Golden Dragon Warrior that came before him.
Looking at them, David couldn’t help but bow down his head and glance down at the locket strapped around his neck as he took in a deep breath.
Richard, noticing the somber look on David’s face, placed a hand on his shoulder. The gesture made David raise his head and turn to him, meeting his gaze, warm and reassuring.
A slight smile then formed on David’s face.
The Golden Den rose out from the waters of the lake. Its doors opened up with Boma, Araban, Flani, and Richard stepping out along with David.
The four of them then summoned their elemental dragons.
“Come, David, let’s return back to the academy,” said Richard, mounted on his earth dragon, with a hand extended out to him.
David just smiled weakly as he received the hand and got onto the dragon.
They all then took off, soaring through the skies, past the vast forest that lay just below.
David, seated by Richard as they rode on top of his earth dragon, bowed down his head. Summoning a dragon was something any dragon warrior could do. In fact, it was as simple as breathing to them, and yet…
He shut his eyes and took in a breath.
…he couldn’t do it.
Richard said the reason may be that his powers took so long to awaken and that with time, one day he would be able to summon his golden dragon, just like his mother, but…
sigh
He looked down and spotted the golden temple in the distance. He then looked down at the locket on his chest.
…he wasn’t so sure about that.
He was different and wasn’t like any other dragon or golden dragon warrior before him. And it’s all because of this…
“Let me out.”
…darkness within him.
Looking down at the locket, strapped around his neck. David just took a breath, wondering if he could ever be someone as great as her.
He then shifted his gaze away from the ground below. Looking ahead to see the Dragon Academy up ahead.
