Chapter 1
“You seem like you need a smoke”
My eyes darted over to her. The young woman who sat to my left. Her tote bag sat between us, seemingly filled with useless crap that women seem to always carry along. My mind went to Ivy, her attempts to always carry a bag wherever she went, sometimes it would match with other outfits and other times it was more functionality than it was fashion.
The bout that rested between the other female’s lips was covered with her hands as she tried to light it with a beat-up red lighter. The sound of the failed spark echoed between us. The night air is cool.
“I definitely could use a smoke, but I’m taking a bit of a break” My words left my lips before my mind could stop me. Was I diving deep into my life story with a stranger? Her face looked familiar, though, not sure where I could place her. Her frustration was evident as she tried to light the joint again. The red lighter was going through it, and the way she clenched it between her index and thumb, you’d think it could feel.
I reached into my back pocket and pulled out a similar lighter, black in colour, flicked the light and passed it to her. Her face dipped as she looked up at me through her lashes. She took a big inhale, white smoke following her as she sat up. I’m still not sure where I know her from, but she’s starting to pique my interest.
This encounter in general was strange, and for this to be happening to someone like me. Only the Gods know what was going on.
“You don’t have to try so hard, I know you, King."
Her Words struck something in me.
Intriguing.
“ Not sure if now just walked into some scary movie shit, but I’m sorry if I don’t remember who you are.” Polite, it’s what I tried to be in situations like this.
Truth be told, this is not the first time some woman pulled up on me like this, and I’m not going to toot my own horn, but I know for a fact that it’s not going to be the last.
“Ivy, we went to school together, and she doesn’t shut up about you. I honestly came down and was on my way to see her, until she said something came up. I don’t live too far from here, and I saw you sitting here.” She shrugged and took a long inhale of the vapour from the joint and exhaled slowly.
“I only came here because my car needed to charge, and the gas station maybe a block down was the only place for me to do so," she explained.
“You and she went to school, yeah?” My question was rhetorical; she’d already said they went to school together. Everything just screamed red flags, but now, there was no real threat that came with her.
Just give her a chance.
There he was again. Starting shit that even I knew was not a good idea.
“We did, fell off just a little bit, but we talk occasionally. You, on the other hand, you’re just a coincidence”
The chuckling that rose from me was unintentional. Seemingly as unintentional as the way we both seemed to bump into each other. I watched as her shoulder-length hair flayed in the wind. The red strands contrasted with her almond skin.
Don’t focus on her body like that; you have a woman at home. Fuck is wrong with you
I watched as she finished the joint. The night air now had a lingering smell that made my mouth water. I couldn’t go back to that, especially as I had to go back home to an angry girlfriend. “I’m once in a lifetime love, ain’t nothing ’bout me is coincidence, I’m one hundred percent intentional.” Her laugh was soft. Like waves hitting the water. It made my hands clammy; this felt wrong, yet it never felt more right.
I couldn’t imagine why she and Ivy could have a falling out. They seemed way too similar in personality for something like that to happen.
You know why they aren’t talking.
Ivy did have a bad habit of not liking people who were similar to her. As if she were repulsed at the same person she had become. It was irrational, and trust me, I made every attempt to let her know just how stupid that ideology was. Sometimes the things she doesn’t even make sense.
That's women for you.
That little asshole in my head could shut up once or twice a day. It was shocking how he wasn’t lusting over how big her ass was, or the way her tits seemed to spill out of her top.
I can get into it if you’d like. Send the blood flowing right to your cock.
His crude remark only made the heat rise in my body. And despite my protests, the thoughts came flooding in. The two beauties were kissing my neck as they told me just how good I made them feel. It was heaven, and was it wrong for a sinner like me to dream about the divine?
“I’ve got to head out, but I’d love to continue our conversation”
Her voice brought me back from my mental quarrel. My semi twitched with the thought of continuing the conversation.
I pulled my phone out and handed it to her. The small brush of our hands brought me back to the same feeling Ivy gave when we first met. I like this feeling.
When she handed me the thought back, I couldn’t suppress the smile that tugged at the corner of my mouth. ’Nya ♥ - 212-520-1668’
It’s what all the girls do when they get a chance to put their number in your phone; to change it would be a big hassle I’m not in the mood for.
“See ya’ later, King, tell Ivy I said to message me, I miss her...”
