Chapter 1 : the awakening of the marks.

The wind howled across the cliffs of the Celestial Isles, carrying with it the faint scent of rain and starlight. The Isles were a world of wonder—floating landmasses tethered to the skies by unseen forces, where rivers cascaded into clouds and forests clung to drifting soil like emerald crowns. Yet tonight, the skies felt heavy, burdened with something ancient, something waiting.

Kael stood at the cliff’s edge, his black cloak snapping in the wind. His gaze swept across the endless horizon, where the stars burned brighter than ever before, as though they were staring back. Beneath his sleeves, his arms burned faintly, pulsing with light. When he pushed the fabric back, three glowing symbols revealed themselves, etched into his skin in twisting, interlocking lines.

One glowed emerald, alive with the breath of forests.

Another shimmered crimson, hot and restless as flame.

The last pulsed silver, like the endless winds of the sky.

Kael’s chest tightened. He had seen marks before—rare, mysterious sigils that tied mortals to fragments of elemental magic—but never more than one. To carry three was unheard of.

Behind him came the sound of boots on stone. His mentor, Solen, emerged from the shadows, tall and solemn, with eyes like storm clouds and hair streaked with gray. His voice carried the weight of years.

“It begins, Kael,” Solen said. “The marks have awakened.”

Kael turned, his voice unsteady. “What do they mean?”

Solen’s gaze lingered on the glowing symbols. “They mean the prophecy is no longer just a whisper. You are the one chosen to awaken the Convergence—the unraveling of all realms. The gods have turned their eyes upon you.”

Kael’s heart pounded. “The gods?”

“The gods do not intervene lightly,” Solen said, lowering his voice as though even the wind might carry his words too far. “They watch from beyond the Veils, but they know you now. To them, you are both promise and danger.”

The marks flared suddenly, and Kael stumbled, clutching his arm. A strange power surged through him, filling his lungs with fire and his veins with wind. For a heartbeat, he felt as though he could tear apart the sky—or burn it down.

Then, silence.

The air shifted. From the starlit void above, a luminous figure descended, its body woven from silver light, its face hidden behind a crown of radiance. A Starborn—a being of prophecy.

Its voice echoed within Kael’s mind, ancient and resonant.

“You bear the Triad of Marks. Life, Fire, and Wind. You are the axis upon which the realms shall turn. The Convergence awakens, and the Veils tremble. Choose your path, Kael, for the gods themselves will not walk unchallenged into your destiny.”

The Starborn’s light flickered, then faded into the wind, leaving only a single glowing feather at Kael’s feet.

He bent to pick it up, trembling. The feather burned cold in his hand, its glow seeping into the marks on his arm. The night was no longer silent—the stars seemed to hum, the winds whispered, and deep within, Kael knew his life had shifted into something vast and perilous.

Solen placed a hand on his shoulder. “From this moment, you are no longer just Kael. You are the Marked. And the realms will test you.”

Kael’s eyes lifted to the horizon, where the stars shimmered like watchful eyes. For the first time, fear and wonder coiled within him as one.

The prophecy had begun.

Question for the Reader:

If destiny marked you with powers that could change the fate of worlds, would you accept the burden—or try to escape it?
