Scorched Beginnings

Flames, fire, destruction, everywhere. “Momma, papa! Where are you!---” she’d cry, unsure of where to go. Winds soaring, trees rustling, bodies burning. “Dorian!” she calls out, seeing her friend, he turns around to face her, but covered in blurs, and disappears. “Dorian! Where did you go?” she calls out, with the last word trembling, her body is shaking, both cold and afraid.

She wakes up, sweat dripping down her face, full of worry. Looks like she just got splashed in the face with some water. “Ugh.. just another dream..” she mumbles to herself, while moving her blanket off of her legs. She gets up, opens the door to her closet, grabs a shirt, then grabs some pants from the drawer below. Then all of a sudden she hears, “GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE, LIL SIS!” She rolls her eyes while putting her clothes on. Afterwords twists the knob on her door and opens it, creaking noises coming from the wood floor while she goes down the stairs. The smells of eggs, toast, and bacon fills the air as she arrives into the kitchen. “Oh, finally you’re awake.” he says in a teasing tone while handing her a plate with a delicious looking breakfast on the top. “Thanks..” she mumbles, barely audible to hear. “What was that?” He says with a bit of curiosity and tease. “Oh nothing.” she says, teasing. “Yeah yeah.. sure..”

They both finish their breakfast within only a few moments. “I’m ready!” she says at the door, while waiting for her older brother. “Zach! Come on!” she yells and her brother comes running down the stairs, creaks echoing through the house. “Sorry, I had to take a dump!” He says as he twists the doorknob on the door. “Then go sooner! Not when we need to leave” he rolls his eyes and walks towards the car. He opens the door and sits in the driver’s seat, and puts the key into the ignition. “It’s so hot in here!” she groans while wiping her forehead with her arm. “Relax, the AC will make the car cold in a second.” Zach says.

They arrive at school and Zach parks in their usual spot, the one closest to the school. He may be a basketball player, but he sure is lazy at times. “Hey dude” we hear from someone nearby. “What’s up?” he says to the familiar guy, Aaron. “Oh nothin much, just the usual.” he says. Aurora, clearly uninterested, walks away and goes over to her best friend, Jasmine. “Oh hey Rory!” she hears, as Jasmine walks towards her with a smile on her face. Jasmine is shorter than Aurora, so she towers over her like a tall building would. Jasmine is about 5′2-5′3ft, while Aurora is about 5′4-5′5ft. “So.. how’s life?” Aurora says in a bit of a teasing tone. “Well.. I’ve heard there is this new really cute guy in our school! Maybe we will be lucky enough to have him in one of our classes..” she says thinking. “Boys are a waste of time, why would you wanna focus on him instead of your future?” “Well, if I end up dating him, then marrying him, then that is my future, technically” Aurora sighs, unamused. “Yeah, but I’m pretty sure a job and a good stable situation would be better, anyways, I’m going to head to class.” She waves her hand as she walks off to her class.

Desks shaking, feet tapping, and talking fills the room. “This is my least favorite class..” she mumbles to herself as she sits in the back. Everyone quiets down as the teacher is about to speak. “Class, today we have a new student, please be kind and welcoming.” everyone whispers, excited to find out who the new student must be. “Well, come on in.” he says and the door opens, medium-lengthed wavy black hair, that falls perfectly in the right places, bright blue eyes that reminded her of the sky, light pale skin, and what seemed to be.. abs through his shirt?-- “This is Dorian, he’s a transfer student from Los Angeles, so please be kind to him.” and she snapped out of it, she then looked at his eyes and he looked back with a small grin on his face. “There is an empty seat in the back next to Aurora, Aurora raise your hand.” she raises her hand with a bit of hesitance and her hand shakes a bit. Dorian looks over at her once again and sits next to her and sits his head down on his arms. Aurora feels stiff, and more tense than she did before all of this. “Okay class, today we will be starting a new partnering project, you will be working with your table partners, or the people right next to you I should say.” Aurora is stunned and surprised, she had never expected for this to happen, she grits her teeth as the teacher continues on explaining the partner project.

A couple hours later, it was lunch. Bags wrinkling, smells of food, and students talking fills the air. Aurora sits at an empty table near the window of the school and sits her lunch tray onto the table. “So.. aren’t we partners for the project?” a voice says and Aurora looks back and sees Dorian behind her. “Oh uh.. yeah..” she mumbles while taking a bite of her chicken sandwich. “Who’s house should we meet up at for it..?” Aurora thinks for a moment then answers with a bit of hesitance, “How about your house? My older brother will just annoy us the entire time if we go to mine” she continues to eat her food. “Sounds good, I’ll text you the address, does 6pm sound good?” he asks. “Yep, but uhm, how are you going to text me? You don’t have my numb--” “I have my ways, Rory.” He then gets up and walks away with his tray, and backpack on his back. What. Just. Happened.

A few hours later, it is currently the end of school and she waits for her brother to stop flirting with girls so she can go home and get ready for the project that she and Dorian will be doing. “I thought boys were a waste of time?” Jasmine teases from behind. “They are, what are you talking about?” Jasmine smirks “You were with Dorian Daegon, the new transfer student.” Aurora then realizes the person she talked about this morning was the same one that she was partnered with. “Aurora Daegon. Has a ring to it.” Jasmine puts her thumb to her chin and thinks while smirking at Aurora. “Shut it!” she says to Jasmine, who is laughing. “I’ll see you girls later” Zach blows a kiss to his fan girls and heads over to his sister, Aurora. “Let’s go Aurora, you know I like to call the boys at the house.” he huffs and crosses his arms waiting impatiently for his apparently slow sister. “Fine, I’m coming, I’ll see you later Jas!” She waves and heads over to the car.

An hour passes, and Aurora is unsure of what to wear to Dorian’s house. Something cute, comfy, preppy, gothy, tomboy, she has no idea. She then finally decides on something preppy and cute, a nice wavy pink dress, cute pink boots, white fishnets on her legs with butterflies, white gloves, and to top it off, pink heart sunglasses on her head. “Perfect!” She says in a confident tone. She opens her door and hurries down the stairs before her brother notices. She quietly opens the front door, gets out, and then quietly closes it. “Phew..” she says looking at the text on her phone from Dorian, realizing that his house is so close, she can just walk if she wanted to, so she did. The evening breeze made her black hair rustle with the trees. She wondered how Dorian had got her number, curious if it was Jasmine who gave it to him, but it didn’t seem Jasmine had ever talked to him. As she walked on the sidewalk, his house started coming into view, a modern house. Wood with white paint going to the sides, tall rectangular windows, black roof, and a glass and metal garage door, she thought how easy it would be for someone to break it, but he more than likely had some type of security with the amount of glass on his house.

She arrived at the front door, a bit nervous, but then knocked on it. She then heard a weird noise, almost like a scream, but more monstrous sounding. “What the hell was that..?!” she says, feeling more guarded. She knocks on the door yet again, harder this time. Nothing. She starts banging on the door a few times, nothing. Was he tricking her this entire time? Then she heard the monstrous screams yet again, “I’m done with this” she begins walking away from the door, then sees something, with fangs sharper than knives, wings that made them fly, eyes red like blood, claws longer than any branch, and a horrifying face. Aurora backs up slowly, and then turns around to start banging on the door. “LET ME IN YOU JERK, OR I’M GONNA DIE!” she screams as the being comes closer. She then throws a pot far away so that the being hears it and goes towards it, and it does exactly that. With a smirk on her face, she starts running, as fast as she possibly can. The being realizes that the noise was nothing and begins chasing Aurora down the street with hunger in its eyes.

After a bit she starts getting exhausted, tired from running, she starts thinking she may faint or fall over. Then after a bit she stops for a second and turns toward the monstrous being, she puts her hands up as if she’s telling it to stop, but what happened will shock you. her hands began heating up, and within seconds, fire came out of her hands, and hit the being in the air, then in fear, it yelps, and flies off. Aurora quickly blinks a few times, taken aback, and surprised by what had just happened. “WHAT WAS THAT?!” she screams out loud and the neighborhood hears.
