Chapter 1: Called In
Mister Boss had called in Charlie and Pim of the Smiling Friends for an assignment. As they strolled into the black room – there Mister Boss sat on his chair.
“Hello boys, I hope you are in the mood for your next assignment” said Mister Boss.
Both glared at him.
“Never felt more excited for this” said Pim.
“Well, here it is” said Mister Boss.
With a remote controller – Mister Boss then revealed their next client – the notorious racist White Dragon. Charlie swallowed as he gazed upon the strange armor.
“Wait, is this the White Dragon, the racist White Dragon?” asked Charlie.
“That’s right, we’ve been given a recommendation from Amanda Waller to make Auggie Smith happy” said Mister Boss, “so that he wouldn’t go and you know do his thing.”
“What is his thing?” asked Pim.
Charlie then pulled Pim aside – he was clearly uncomfortable with the assignment at hand by Mister Boss.
“I’m not sure if I should go ahead and do this assignment it sounds way too uncomfortable to me” said Charlie.
“What ever do you mean, we’re the Smiling Friends, we should make anyone smile” said Pim.
This was a conflicting philosophy for Charlie – he was an avowed anti-racist while Auggie clearly wasn’t.
“Still waiting, if you don’t assign I will fire you both” laughed Mister Boss.
Charlie sighed as he gazed at Mister Boss.
“Fine, we’ll do it” replied Charlie.
“Good, here’s the address where Auggie is” laughed Mister Boss.
Only Charlie felt unnerved with the meeting with Mister Boss over the upcoming assignment. As they headed into the kitchen to get a few snacks on the road – Glep was sitting on his favorite large pillow playing video games. Alan was making coffee.
“Going out to see the White Dragon?” asked Alan to Charlie and Pim.
“Yea, and we’re going to make him smile!” laughed Pim.
Alan could see that Pim was the only one excited for the mission at hand. Charlie on the other hand had his reservations about Auggie Smith.
“You know, I am going to give him some anti-racist material, you know give him a piece of my mind” said Charlie.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, you know how angry Auggie gets when he sees that sort of material” said Alan.
“But I have to do something to change his mind about race” said Charlie.
“I know what we can do Charlie, we can teach him the wonders of other cultures” replied Pim, “maybe he’d enjoy something about them.”
Charlie had his doubts while Pim was overexcited for the mission.
“Just be aware, he’s blunt with his racism” replied Alan, “he even doesn’t like us critters aside from other humans who are different.”
Charlie and Pim took their snacks and they were off – the address was a typical house with an upside down American flag. Auggie had detested his own country for quite sometime. His living son – Chris Smith a.k.a. Peacemaker was out on assignment for Amanda Waller. Charlie and Pim arrived via taxi.
“This is the place” said Charlie.
“Heh, it’s your funeral” laughed the taxi driver as he sped off.
“Yea, we’re going to make somebody smile” laughed Pim.
Pim got out of the car first after Charlie, what came next would shock Charlie to the core.
