Chapter 1
“Mom, Dad I will be fine, please don’t worry about me” , saying to my parents in the car while going to Hyderabad. This is the first time I am leaving my home town & my parents and living alone in a new city. I got placed at JNTU College in Civil. And they are coming to settle me down. And they are petrified of leaving me alone.
“I know you will be fine, Kanna, we just want to make sure you're living in a safe place.” my Dad says. While my mom starts sobbing as we reach my flat where I am going to stay.
The watchman saluted us and started carrying my luggage to my flat. And we followed him. It's a 3BHK fully furnished apartment on the 5th floor and I am in one of the small coziest bedrooms with an attached washroom. And the room opposite to my bedroom is a midsized one and to our left we have a kitchen and master bedroom obviously big in size compared to mine. In the middle it’s a hallway.
My mom started unpacking my bags and started organizing my clothes and other items in the cupboard. It's Sunday today and my college starts tomorrow. I came early so that I can settle down and explore the neighbourhood and get ready for tomorrow's induction program at college.
“I brought you some healthy snacks from home” my mom says and then whispers “Don’t share the expensive food with anyone, eat by yourself". Dad and I looked at each other and started laughing. Meanwhile at the same time my other roommate came into the apartment with her parents.
I went forward and gave her a shake hand and said “Hey, Hi this Aarohi, your roommate, I'm staying in this room” and I pointed to my room.
“Hi, I am Suhani, I am staying in your opposite room” she says.
Our parents exchanged hands and smiles and started talking to each other. Meanwhile we also started chatting.
“I am doing CSE at JNTU. And you?” she says.
“Oh Nice, I am from the same college, but I am in Civil” I said and gave a sad sigh.
“You don’t like doing Civil?” she asked.
“I am not sure” I shrugged. “I like it, but my parents hate it. Because they think it's not meant for girls”.
“Yeah, that's true. But it's nice, you can make a lot of rich, handsome guy friends” she said and winked at me. And we both started giggling. Meanwhile our mom’s came near to us.
“Hey Kanna, do you know that their hometown is near to us!” my mom says in excitement. I nodded and looked at Suhani. And she agrees with my mom.
It’s good to hear that, my parents will be a bit relieved now when they go back.
…
It’s almost evening time. My mom had organised my room beautifully. And they're now ready to leave. My mom gave a long hug and kisses and started crying.
“Mom, please don’t start again, I am not a kid anymore. I am 17 years and will become 18 soon” .
“You will always be a kid to us, even if you are 50 years old,” mom says while hugging.
My Dad also joined us and we are now having a group hug. I went downstairs to give them a send off. After 2 mins Suhani's parents also came down to leave. While leaving they are waving at us and saying “be good and take care of each other, bye..”. And we waved and smiled back.
While going upstairs I asked suhani about the other roommate. But she also doesn't have an idea about her. And we both went to our respective rooms to take a rest.
…
It’s almost dinner time now. We haven't brought groceries yet and haven’t kept a Cook yet. We are planning to do all these things when the 3rd roommate arrives. Till then we are thinking of ordering something or eating maggi. So I went down to buy a few items for 2 - 3 days and also to explore the neighbourhood. Suhani didn’t come with me, because she was too lazy to walk.
I walked in our very peaceful neighbourhood. There are so many trees and so many shops towards the main road. I remembered a few shop locations which might be useful for me in the future like a medical shop, curry point, stationery shop, hospital, supermarket etc. I think there are so many bachelors in our colony, because I see young people sitting down in couples and groups, talking and laughing. At first I felt a bit odd, because I have never seen young people hanging out like this on roads in my hometown, or maybe I haven't gone out at night. Or maybe it’s because I dont’t have guy friends till now who are so close.
I went back to my room and made maggi for the two of us and ate while watching TV. Thank god Suhani washed utensils, cause I hate doing it.
We switched off the lights and went to our room to sleep. For a few minutes I couldn't sleep. Maybe because the place is new or maybe because I am excited to start my adulthood or maybe because I am anxious about meeting new people. But eventually after some time I slept.
