Chapter 1
I was on my way to class when my friend Sabrina, comes running up to me. Well, I guess I really wouldn't call her a friend. More of an associate. Forget it! Let's call it what is really is. I'm the nerd she pays to do her assignments. I was the geek of the school. No one looked twice at me. I always wore a uniform even though school didn't require it. I keep my hair in an updo bun, and my glasses were too big for my face. I thought I was lucky to have hazel eyes, but they get looked past because of the glasses. As she yells for me, I just keep walking. I bumped into the most annoying person I've ever met, Blake Rivers. Not only was he popular with everyone, but he was also super smart. I always had to go above and beyond thanks to him. One mess up and my scholarship went to him.
Blake: Watch where you're going freak!
I hurry off. I hated him but I'd be lying if I denied why every girl liked him. He was gorgeous. At least from what I could see. No has fully seen his face before. He was always in a mask, but his eyes alone were enough to drive a girl crazy. I had always wonder if he has a sickness. But obviously I never asked him. He was such a jerk. I make it to my first class which was physics. Sabrina shared that class with me. She had finally caught up to me.
Sabrina: I been looking for you!
Me: Sorry I was going to be late.
Sabrina: Bullshit! Class isn't for another fifteen fucking minutes!
I look away and she rolls her eyes. She shoves something in face. I look and see "Venom" in big letters. My eyes start sparkling. It was my favorite rock band.
Sabrina: You like this band, right?
Me: Like?! I LOVE THEM!
Sabrina: Well, since my dad is a PR manager for the band, he got two tickets and backstage passes.
Me: Your so lucky!
Sabrina: I'm not going to that shit. Look I blew through my allowance this week on clothes so I can't pay you.
Me: I really need that.
She sighs and flips her hair over her shoulder. She places the tickets and backstage passes in my hand.
Sabrina: This is all I got. You can probably sell the other ticket and pass equivalent to what I pay you.
Me: I can't that's illegal!
Sabrina: Fuck! You're such a goodie two shoes! Fine I'll find someone and give you the money. I'll meet you next period.
She takes the extra ticket and pass. She leaves. The professor comes in and I already have everything ready to start the lecture. Right before the professor starts, Blake walks in. He takes a seat next to me. He slings his bag down knocking my stuff over.
Me: Do you mind?
Blake: It was in my way.
Me: I was here first!
Professor: Ms. Velez, class has started.
Me: Sorry sir.
He starts snickering next to me. I pout and glare at him. He waves his hands in the air like he was scared. He balls up a piece of paper and throws at me.
Me: Will you cut it out?!
Professor: Ms. Velez.
Me: Sorry sir.
Professor: One more outburst and I will kick you out of class.
Me: Understood.
He laughs again. I refused to let him get under my skin anymore. I was finally able to focus when suddenly he kicks me out of my chair and I land on the floor. Some blonde girl takes my seat. She pushes my books on the floor. I stand up and slam my hands down on the desk.
Me: That's it!
Professor: MS. VELEZ!
Me: Sir, he's been trying--.
Professor: Enough! Gather your things right now and leave!
Me: But!
Professor: NOW!
Blake and the blonde girl look at me and start snickering. I gather my books and leave the class. I make it into the hallways and breakdown crying. I pull the ticket out my bag and see that the concert was tonight. I quickly wipe my tears. At least something great was happening today for me. I stand up and rush home to start getting ready. I had nothing to wear though. My sister went through this phase before. I knock on her door.
Me: Cici? You home?
Cici: Come in.
I walk in and she was working on her laptop. My sister was a head nurse. She looks up at me.
Cici: What's up Roxy?
Me: Do you have anything from your party days suitable for a rock concert maybe?
Cici: Yeah, why?
Me: I got a ticket and backstage pass to see Venom tonight!
Cici: Shit! Nice! How'd you score that?
I couldn't tell her that the girl I do homework for gave it to me to, so I lie. It would be believable though.
Me: I won a radio contest. Lucky caller number 10.
Cici: Lucky!
She stands up and goes to her closet. She starts pulling things out and handing them to me. It was so much. My arms were starting to hurt.
Cici: You can have it.
I toss the clothes on her bed and run over to give her a hug. I gather the clothes back up and rush off to my room. I decide on a black crop top, some black cargo pants with chains on them, some black boots with spikes on them and a black collar. I keep my hair the same. I let out a sigh and go sit on the bed. I looked so basic. I want to stand out. There was a knock on my door.
Me: Yeah, come in.
Cici walks in. She sits next to me one the bed. She looks over my outfit.
Cici: You look cute.
Me: I look basic. I'm just not attractive.
Cici: Nonsense! What is your goal here?
Me: I mean I just want to get Blaine to look at me. Even if no other guy does. At least I know the lead singer of Venom thinks I'm cute.
Cici laughs. She grabs my hand and drags me into the bathroom and has me sit on the toilet. She starts applying a very small layer of make-up. She knows how much I hate it. Freeing my hair from the bun, she brushes it out before she puts in some clip-on highlights. She puts a lip piercing on me. Not a real one. Apparently, she wore these a lot.
Cici: Roxy, time for the finishing touch.
Me: What?
Cici: Contacts.
Me: NO! You know I hate things near my eyes!
Cici: Do you want Blaine to notice you or not?
Me: Yes! Fine!
I take my glasses off. Oddly it wasn't as bad as I thought. She got then in really fast. She has me look in the mirror.
Me: Is this me?
Cici: Yep, this is my baby sister. As beautiful as ever. I used clear contacts that way you can see and your real eye color stands out.
I pull her into a big hug. I want to cry but I don't know how to put mascara back on, so I decide to save it for later.
Cici: Have fun tonight sis.
Me: I will.
She tosses me the keys to her car. I catch them. She never lets me drive.
Cici: I'll probably be asleep and I don't want you stranded. Just don't' come home too late. Love you.
Me: I won't thank you so much sis. I love you too.
I make sure to have my ticket and my backstage pass. I hurry out the door and make sure to drive carefully.
