Cameron sat at his desk, going over the job specs that the team was leaving for in 5 hours. As team lead, he had already been through them a hundred times, but a last quick glance never hurt. This should be an easy in and out mission, based on the intel they have. The team is tasked with rescuing two young girls who were kidnapped from the US and trafficked by a cartel. Having been missing for 3 months already, the girls were 11 and 14. The intel we have states they are being held in an abandoned warehouse somewhere in Belize and there are 20 armed guards stationed in and around the building, a piece of cake for his experienced team.

Footsteps in the hallway outside his office made him lift his head as Eli popped his head around the door.

‘Hey boss, you still want a lift home? I’m leaving in five minutes?’ he asks.

‘Yeah man, thanks a lot. I’ll meet you out front,’ I tell him, and he nods his head and leaves.

I place the files together and put them back in my drawer before heading out and meeting up with Eli. We both get into his truck before heading off towards my home.

‘How are you feeling about this job, boss?’

‘Should be a cakewalk, but it’s kids, so anything could go wrong’

‘Yeah, I feel ya, Any mission that involves kids always stings the worst, but we got this, boss, so no worries, no drama,’ he says, making me laugh.

It’s just like Eli to see the mission that way. He is the kind of guy who is always happy and goofing around, but as soon as we set off for a job, he becomes a totally different person. So focused, and can take down an enemy with his bare hands without a care in the world.

‘You’re right, man, just planning for all eventualities, you know’

‘That’s why you’re the boss, boss,’ he says with a chuckle as we pull up outside my house. ‘See you in 2 hours, man,’ he says as I get out.

Approaching my front door, I discover it’s unlocked, which is strange because I always lock it when I leave. Slowly pushing the door open, I retrieve my sidearm from its belt holster. After sweeping my lounge and finding nothing, I slipped silently into the kitchen, which was also clear. I headed down the hallway to the bedrooms, and my bedroom door was slightly ajar, which was strange as I remembered closing it before I left. I slowly push the door open, holding my gun out in front of me, sweeping the room as the door opens. My eyes follow the door as I sweep the room. My gaze lands on Lisa naked on my bed, and I sigh. She screamed at the sight of my gun, making me sigh even harder.

‘What the fuck are you doing here, Lisa?’ I ask as I lower my gun and holster it.

‘Were you going to shoot me?’ She asks, fear etched on her face.

‘There is an intruder in my home; have you forgotten who I am and what I do for a living? I’ll ask you again, what the fuck are you doing here, Lisa?’

‘I wanted to surprise you, baby?’ She says making my skin crawl. How I ever thought I loved her was beyond me.

‘Did you forget we have been broken up over a year? That you left me after cheating on me while I was away on a job? Did you forget all that, huh?’ I snapped at her.

‘I know, baby, but I missed you so much while you were gone and I have needs,’ she says nonchalantly, making me scoff at her.

‘Yeah, you missed me so much you came on to four of my brothers, and when they turned you down you went and found yourself a different plaything. How’s that going, by the way? Does he know you’re here?’ I asked her as I grabbed my bag out of the closet for my things.

‘I broke it off, I missed you too much,’ she says, and I laugh at the absurdity of this bitch.

‘Well, I haven’t missed you, not one bit. So I suggest you get your clothes back on and leave, Lisa. I’m not interested’ I say, collecting her clothes and throwing them right at her shocked face.

‘Oh, come on, Cam, I really missed you, baby,’ she says, getting off the bed and walking towards me. I took a step back and raised my hands.

‘Stop Lisa! I’m not interested and I don’t have time for this shit. I’m leaving for a job in an hour so please just put your clothes back on and fuck off,’ I snap at her and walk out of my bedroom and to the kitchen.

I cannot believe this bitch. She has the nerve to turn up here again like fuck all happened, after a goddamn year. If I had not seen the evidence with my own eyes, I would have believed her when she said she was only messing around when she came onto the guys from Charlie Team and did not cheat on me but I had video evidence of her getting railed in the club bathroom by some guy.

‘Move it Lisa I’m not playing around,’ I shout down to her, and I hear her shuffling around, mumbling curses.

A few minutes later she emerged fully clothed, if you could call what she had on clothes. I hold out my hand, and she looks at me strangely.

‘Key Lisa,’ I state, and she reluctantly hands it over.

‘So there’s no chance then?’ She asks, and I shake my head no.

‘No, Lisa, there’s no chance at all.’

As a sigh of relief escapes me, I make my way to my bedroom to prepare my bag, hoping to forget the sight of Lisa on my sheets. I strip the bed first and throw the sheets straight into the bin along with the pillows and duvet. When I get home, I will buy new things. I then packed my bag, making sure I had everything I needed, then called Eli to let him know I was ready, just wanting to leave as quickly as possible.

I met him outside after ensuring all my doors and windows were locked.

‘Why did you want to leave so quickly, boss?’ He asks as I get into the truck, throwing my bag in the backseat.

‘I walked in and found Lisa lying buck naked on my bed. She wanted me back, apparently,’ I told him, shaking my head while still trying to rid myself of that image.

‘No fucking way,’ he says, clearly as shocked about it as I had been.

‘Yes way, it was fucking horrible, man. I’ve had to throw my sheets and bedding away. I may even burn the bed. I’m not sure,’ I tell him with a shudder.

‘I bet that woman is hot as hell but has the ugliest soul,’ he says.

‘I definitely need to get my locks changed. I completely forgot she never gave me the key back when I kicked her out.’

‘Jake will sort that for you, man.’

‘Yeah, I know she just riles me. She cheated, then after a year thinks I’ll just take her back. I don’t know where she gets the balls’

‘She’s totally delulu brother, you’re well shot of her,’ he says as we pull up in the carpark of Equinox Security Solutions.

‘I know, man, I know,’ I tell him as we get out of the car.

We both grab our bags, then head inside. I grab a walkie from the front desk as we pass and head towards the breakroom.

‘Phoenix 1, where are you?’ I say into the walkie.

‘Conference room B, man,’ he replies, and we head that way after dropping our bags.

We walked into the conference room, and Jake was sitting with Dominic, going over paperwork.

‘What’s up fellas?’ Jake asks as we take a seat.

‘I need my locks changed and my bed burning. Any chance you can help a brother out?’ I say and he laughs his ass off.

‘Gonna need some context, brother,’ he says, and I sigh.

‘Well, Eli dropped me home and I walked in to find Lisa buck naked on my bed, so my locks need changing and my bed needs burning,’ I tell him, and he bursts out laughing again, as does Dominic.

‘Yeah, that’s really helping fellas’

‘Sorry, man, yeah, I’ll help you out, leave it with me,’ he said as voices in the hall got louder and the rest of the team entered the conference room.

‘How in the hell did she even get into your place?’ Dominic asked.

‘She still had her key. I never got it back from her when I kicked her out.’

‘Rookie mistake, my friend, always, always get the key back or change the damn locks,’ Blake says, laughing his head off.

‘Fuck you all,’ I say angrily for like a minute before I join them and laugh with them.

We spent the last hour going over final tactics for the rescue op and ensuring we all had everything we could need. Everyone loaded the truck with our bags and weapons before heading off to the airfield. We boarded the plane and each one of us shut down our emotions, solely focused on the task in front of us: get there, get the girls, get home safely.
