Preface: Major Spoiler Warning
This story is built up from another, one called The Elf-Bard and The Traitor; it is a sequel, or, for much of its length: a sort of prequel to that tale. We have hoped to craft that story with some spark of excellence, that it might stand on its own merits. This one, Sun-Prince, though it delves deeper, will not be understandable without the foundation of its predecessor. We have ensured that story is available through all the same channels as this one, so in short: Elf-Bard—start there.
“Why,” you may be asking? Aha, that is the right sort of question, but we cannot reveal too much. Elf-Bard provides insights best enjoyed through the mysteries and weirdnesses of its own narrative, as does this story; you’d do well to remain ‘in the dark,’ so to speak. Of particular interest are the many peoples of Selegrae, their actions and their cultures; the story asks: ‘What might we make of them?’ And of course: one person in particular, who keeps many secrets from our Denbas Sorman, and demands the same secrecy from all of their subordinates. We could remark that this story, Sun-Prince, is concerned with another half of the same question. One would need to develop an informed attachment to said character and their world to see the story in full color; this we hope to inspire, between the two. Consider this mysterious phrase: ’All along, she knew The Ending’. To understand her, you should too, and not forget.
So, before you continue here: go back. Learn who that titular Traitor is, form some idea of why; even if you have read Elf-Bard once recently enough to know the motions of its plot, a re-read may be helpful, before, during or after you crack this tome and begin to pin its secrets down. Such knowledge grants us context, that we might hone our understanding of the world and the narratives within it. Remember: just because a story is ended, does not mean that it is complete…
