May 1st: Twin

I created a pair of twin ghosts named Glitz and Glamour for the first prompt.

Glitz is all yellow: yellow eyes, yellow hair, yellow skin. She wears glittery red 1970s clothes: Go-go boots, bell-bottoms, and a satin blouse. Her hair is shoulder-length and often poofs out around her head as though she were in zero-g. Her ears are pointed because she’s a ghost. Her nose is small and high, making her look like a teenager.

She attacks by creating flash of light to blind her opponents, giving Glamour the opportunity to bombard the enemy. If you manage to stop her and get to know her, she’s full of energy and spunkiness. All she wants in life is to be the “glitteriest” girl around.

Glamour retained her dark skin when she became a ghost, though it’s more radiant than it was in life. She wears glamorous 1940s gowns in jewel tones. She has freckles, but her eyes, nose, and ears match her sister’s. Her hair is long and silky.

She attacks from behind after Glitz stuns their enemy. If you manage to stop her and get to know her, she’s reserved, thoughtful, and soft spoken. All she wants in life is to be the most glamorous girl around.

Now a story with them.

The first thing she noticed was a feeling of weightlessness. It was a comforting feeling, like she was meant to fly.

Then the unsettlingness came in. She didn’t know who she was, other than a “she.” She didn’t know where she was, or what happened to her. Did something happen to her? She figured the best way to learn would be to check out her surroundings.

She opened her eyes. All around her glowed with purple and green swirls. Rocks and doors floated around her. And across from her… another girl.

The other girl still had her eyes closed. She looked familiar, and the first girl felt a strong connection to her. She would die for this other girl.

Did she die for this other girl?

She looked down at herself. She had beautiful dark skin, but it had an eerie luminescence. Like a… ghost? Was she a ghost? She looked back at the other girl. The other girl burned bright like a sunflower, with hair and skin of yellow.

The other girl opened her eyes then. They sparkled with gold. The two girls were silent, wondering what to say first.

“Who are you?” the golden girl asked.

“I could ask you the same,” the first girl said. Not exactly hostile, but curious.

“I don’t know who I am,” the golden girl said simply. “Do you know who you are?”

The first girl felt her heart break. But why? She brushed the feeling aside and answered, “No.”

The golden girl smiled. “Then we get to name ourselves! Tell me, what do I look like?”

The first girl wondered what the other girl was thinking. How could she be so calm about such a strange situation?

“Well,” the first girl said, “your skin and hair are the color of sunflowers. Your hair is short and flows around your head. Your clothes are red and look like they’re from the 1970s. And you’re very smiley.”

To prove the point, the golden girl grinned wider as she looked at her clothes and hands. “Cool beans! You have bronze skin, and your hair is like the night. It’s long and luxurious, but I’m not jealous. I’d say your clothes are more like the 1940s, but with a modern twist. By modern, I mean the 70s, of course.”

“How do we know what 70s era clothes look like?” she wondered.

The golden girl shrugged. “Who knows? Anyway, what should we name ourselves? I could be ‘Sunflower.’”

“No, that’s not quite right,” the first girl said. “We need something more fitting, more… radical. And something that comes in a pair, so we match.

“Why do we need to match?” the golden girl asked. “Oh, I get it! We’re twins, aren’t we!”

The first girl’s heart soared. “Yeah, I think we are! So our names should be twins, too.”

“Hm… My clothes are glittery. What about… Glitz?”

The first girl snapped her fingers. “That’s it! And I’m Glamour!”

“Glitz and Glamour,” Glitz said. “Primo!”

The girls smiled at each other.

After a moment, Glamour’s smile faded, and she asked, “So… where are we?”
