Summary

She found a notebook hidden between forgotten books in the school library. Inside were letters never sent… words meant for someone she didn’t know. So she started replying. She just didn’t know she was already closer to the writer than she thought.

Chapter 1: The Notebook 📒

I always preferred the library.

Not because I loved books—but because no one ever really looked at me there.

It was the one place where silence didn’t feel heavy. It felt safe. Like nothing in my life could suddenly change between one shelf and the next.

My name is Lara, and I’ve learned how to exist quietly in places where I don’t really belong.

That’s why I didn’t notice the notebook at first.

It was tucked between two old textbooks on the highest shelf.

Too hidden to be accidental.

Too placed to be random.

The kind of hiding spot you use when you don’t want something found… ever.

But I found it.

I hesitated before touching it, like it might disappear if I moved too fast. The cover was plain, slightly worn at the edges, with no name on it.

Just silence.

I pulled it down.

Dust brushed my fingers.

For a moment, I thought about putting it back.

I should have.

Instead, I opened it.

The first page was empty except for one sentence written in neat handwriting:

“To whoever finds this… I hope you understand what I couldn’t say out loud.”

My breath slowed.

It didn’t feel like a school note. It didn’t feel random.

It felt personal—like I had stepped into someone’s private thoughts without permission.

I turned the page.

“Some things are easier to write than to speak.”

Another page.

“I wonder if anyone would still stay if they knew the real me.”

Something in my chest tightened, though I couldn’t explain why.

Page after page, the notebook wasn’t a story.

It was a confession.

Not loud.

Not dramatic.

Just human.

Loneliness, written in ink.

“I’ll return it tomorrow,” I whispered, though no one had asked me to keep it.

But my fingers didn’t let go.

The librarian’s voice pulled me back.

“Closing soon.”

I nodded quickly and closed the notebook halfway—then stopped.

I didn’t want to let it go.

Not yet.

Not like this.

I carried it home that day.

And I didn’t know it yet…

But I was about to start replying.

jo987_123: This is a good story, but it needs a good editor to go through this iteration and fix the mistakes. The pov changes from 1st person to 3rd person, often, and sometimes within one sentence. It needs a liberal sprinkling of punctuation marks throughout, and a decision needs to be made about the char...
