Thankful

When November came around, Reece was shocked to see how many people were getting ready for Christmas.
Reece did like December but it was only November, which meant Thanksgiving was coming up. That also meant families would come together to be grateful for each other and eat together. Reece didn’t know much about the holiday’s history but he did like seeing his family and eating food. Besides, Thanksgiving Break gave him some time away from school.
Reece started to think about being thankful a week before Thanksgiving. Reece was thankful even though he had to clean when he didn't want to, deal with a family he sometimes wanted to avoid, and reject food that he didn't like.
Reece soon realized that he wasn’t too grateful for the things he had and decided to change his mindset on that because what if he suddenly lost the home he slept in? Or he lost the family that tried their best? Or he lost the food that was put on the table every day?
Another reason Reece wanted to be more grateful was because he knew that a homeless person he’d seen on the streets probably had a home, a family, and food to eat before everything went downhill. Not everyone was born poor and no one really wanted to be poor.
Reece’s mindset changed quickly and once it was officially the day of Thanksgiving, he helped in the kitchen and showed his family some genuine gratitude.
