Chapter 1: Entry
Nice girls don’t end up in murder investigations. Lucky for you, I was never nice. People say I’ve got a knack for trouble, like it’s perfume I wear without knowing. One minute, I’m sipping coffee in a low-lit diner. The next, I’m stepping over bloodstains with flashlights bouncing off my boots. You want the truth? I didn’t choose this life—it chose me. And if you’re the type who flinches at dead ends or locked doors, do yourself a favor: shut this book and save yourself the nightmares. But if you’re brave—or just nosy—stick around. You’re about to hear the kind of story that stains your soul. Hi, my name is Katie McKlane and you guys are right now wondering what I am doing here? Well guys you’re in for a treat so listen up if I were you, I just stop reading but since you came this far, I’ll get to the point. I am a detective not those crime solving detectives just a regular girl well maybe not “normal” normal, cause I don’t think people consider me that, whatever I am more of a play detective like I pretend to be one, well I did, but I got myself in a mess which is normal for me but sadly for my luck this wasn’t just any mess it was a Crime with the capital-C. I know what you’re saying “How could I do something that stupid well I don’t know okay?”.
Just listen to me I didn’t kill anyone at least to my knowledge I didn’t. I AM INNOCENT (I think). I can’t even trust myself anymore – thanks to all these stupid rumors. Anyway, where were we oh yeah like I said I didn’t get directly involved in the crime but I was there when it happened it happened right in front of me. So yeah, I was technically involved. You know, like how a person “technically” shows up at a party and suddenly it’s their fault that the cake got ruined. Everyone just pointing the fingers never asking what actually happened. I was just standing there, just watching and here everyone saying I did it. If I had known been witness was a crime, I would have just run but no my legs just stopped there and I was left wondering “How will I survive?”. Let me just get to the real story, what actually happened no more lies this is my side of the story. It was normal morning and I was getting ready for another thrilling day of my life. As usual everyone gave me weird looks just as I stepped out of the house this was pretty normal to me because I mean just last week I spied on my next-door neighbor and ended out finding another woman in his house the moment I told his wife she was really pissed but not at him but me because apparently that was just the man’s sister. Of course, I got in trouble for it I got huge lecture from her and the police because she made a huge complaint on me for trespassing other’s territory.
Besides my home the police station is where you could find me it’s like my second home. Anyway, back to what happened so I was walking through the streets trying to be normal as possible. I went to the store to buy some food and the rest of the day just went like that until I was heading home at night and I saw this man wearing a black jacket walking to an alley.
A normal person might have just gone back and acted like they saw nothing but me on the other hand had other ideas. I knew my gut was telling me to go so yeah, I ended up sneaking behind. The man walked through a door to a building and I sneaked in just to lay my eyes on two dead bodies just on the floor with a pool of blood. My stomach dropped. I should have turned around. I should have never followed him. This—whatever this was—was way beyond me. Then another man came in with woman tied up. I heard what they were saying slightly. The first man was like “Should we kill her? What’s the point of keeping her alive she couldn’t even do her job right” the other man replied “No, we can’t kill her not yet the Boss didn’t give the orders yet and she is valuable to us still remember you still owe us” the man said lifting the woman’s chin up. I had no idea what was happening? questions started flowing to my mind like “What does she owe them?” or “What did she do?”. My heart beat was racing my mind was going crazy and my body just behind the stack of boxes trying not to blow my cover. I held my breath, praying my heart wasn’t loud enough to give me away. One wrong move, one squeak of a shoe or cough, and I was dead—or worse. The first guy turned toward the boxes.
My whole body locked up. He took a step. Then another. “What was that? “Probably rats,” the other guy said. Rats. Great. That’s what I’d become. A sewer rat in jeans and a hoodie, hiding from actual killers. I didn’t dare to move because if I did, I would be #Dead body 3 and the rats will be left to tell my story. I am not being mean or anything but this was quite fun. I know regular people don’t jump into crime scenes for fun but like I said earlier I am not normal. So go ahead call me anything you won’t because if this will be the end for me, I might as well have something to remember. If the police find me here probably dead, they might be really glad cause no more annoying visits from me. Will I die? Probably or Will I get arrested and then sentenced to death? Maybe. Now wait, why am I talking about possibly dying when I have two options and I am going to die either way. Haha, I have seriously gone mad now. Snapchat back to reality girl you got another problem in your hands. Just as I peeked through the boxes there was loud – BOOM. I was so startled I almost fell from my position. The two men started to look through the windows to see what was happening and they started to panic like crazy people I mean they are crazy. The grabbed the woman tied up and everything else and ran out of the doors. When I rose from behind the boxes and then I heard the most famous call guess what – The police sirens. This moment was getting better and better I was here in a room with two dead bodies and the real culprits just ran away. Splendid, just my luck. The police walked in holding guns and torches and then they ………... SAW ME!!!! The flashed the torch at me then the dead bodies they covered their face with their hands as if they were almost regretting their lives, I mean why would they not regret their lives they should regret because I am in it. I was standing there and I did the stupidest thing any human could do.
I gave the – VILLAIN SMILE. The most menace smile a person could give. They stared right at me and came forward putting handcuffs on me and said “Miss Katie you are under arrest and you have the right to remain silent”. Of course, I gave them the innocent look and said “But it wasn’t me?” I mean it wasn’t mean so I said the truth.
Then one police officer said “Miss anything you said will be used in court and since you can’t prove your innocence you have every right to keep quiet now”. “But I didn’t do it I beg you to believe me pls” I said then the other police officer gave me a glare not just any glare – A Death Glare and said “Katie stop with all these nonsenses just how many times did we warn you? you never listen and get yourself into so many messes but you always act like you didn’t do it it’s like your get away ticket, you were complained by many people for trespassing, snooping, shoplifting, vandalism, noise complaints, disorderly conduct, loitering, jaywalking, Sneaking into events or venues, Entering restricted government property and there is more, so pls for once understand you crossed the line we gave you chances no, I myself protected you and let you off telling you won’t do it, why couldn’t you just understand, YOU CROSSED THE LINE, Katie you are not only a thief, but a criminal, you are a murder”.
For the first time in years, I stood silent, He was right I did cross the line but still it wasn’t me, you guys know that right? Right??
