What is your opinion?

Brilliant!

"I absolutely loved this novel. The story and characters are well crafted and gripping, but what I liked the most was the detailed, richly imagined world the author has created here. I could really picture walking along the cobbled streets with Kandi, riding in the spice wagon with Harndak, and visiting the fantastic crystal city on the plains. I notice this is the first in a series, so I'm looking forward to part two in the future. If it's as good as part one, I'm definitely reading it!"

Much better than expected

"I came across this on Twitter. Usually, I'm a bit wary of Twitter recommendations, but a friend said I should give this one a go. I thought I would read the first chapter, decide it wasn't much good, and not bother with the rest. Before I knew it, two hours had gone by and I was reading chapter 8. Fantasy isn't really my thing, so the fact that this novel held my attention for that long is quite surprising and shows how good it actually is. The main plot is an old idea, but a good retelling with some interesting new twists; the sub plots give some idea of how this particular world works. For me, the characters are the best part of the story, each one has their own personality, even the ones who only pop up for a sentence or two. I particularly liked the time goddess, and I think she might be a fun character to follow in her own book or short story. All in all, this is a good fantasy tale, and although I wouldn't buy a copy for myself (as I've mentioned, fantasy isn't my thing) I would certainly buy copies for friends who do like this genre."

The Colourless review

"Overall, this is a good first novel (I'm assuming this is the author's first novel, as it's book 1 of a series): the plot is nicely paced, with action scenes and information reveals balancing each other out. The main characters, Kandrina and Remlik, are well rounded and develop throughout the story. This seems to be aimed at the Young Adult market, and I think it would be quite popular with that age group. My only small quibble, as a grammatical pedant, is a slight overuse of the semicolon. Nothing a quick editorial polish couldn't fix, and it would make some of the longer sentences snappier. I think this writer has a talent, and is well worth keeping an eye on in the future. This particular novel definitely deserves recognition, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it in bookshops in the near future."

Nice work

"A simple but very well written story. The main characters are intriguing and have a depth to them often missing from new authors' work, and the secondary characters and plotlines give added interest to the world. I have to admit, when I read the description I was imagining some angsty, teenage misery with the girl constantly crying over her brother - boy, was I wrong. You've handled it well, without overdoing the emotional side of things. I also enjoyed the touches of humor you've thrown in, I'm still chuckling over "The peasants are revolting". Overall, a good story well told."

OMG love it!

"Best new fantasy I've read in a while, I can't believe this hasn't been published already! I love the characters, they're all so real and you can watch them develop as the story goes along. I like the way this finishes, like you've wrapped up this part of Kandi's adventure but there's still much, much more to discover about the world. Nice work!"

Could not stop reading it

"This has got to be the most engrossing story I've read since the Spellsinger series. The descriptions are rich in detail, the characters are well-formed and believable, and the plot moves along quickly, with just enough intrigue to keep you reading. If you're looking for a new fantasy series to follow, you could do a lot worse than this Lost Tribes series. I can't wait to see what book 2 is like! Rose"

"The Colourless"

"This is a well written and thought out storyline. If you are into fantasy this is the one for you. It will take you way beyond the shires or middle earth! The characters are captivating and the adventure is one you should definately follow."
