Chapter 1

Trees are magnificent things

There are millions on our Earth

Some are tall and thick and strong

Whilst some are halted at birth

Oak, pine and Christmas

Though traditional for some

There is only one type for me

My heart for which it won

This tree is very special

It has plenty of stories to tell

Its seed is gold, its existence priceless

It is mine and I will never sell

Its trunk is really thick

To support the life above

To bear the fruit and flowers

The eagle and the dove

The branches there are massive

reaching for the sky

Its twigs are spindly fingers

That crumble when they die

The body has many knots

from the weight it must support

However big the burden is

A tough fight my tree has fought

The fruits are just as special

for when the object dies

It is mourned and celebrated

Then buried where it lies

Flowers are new hope

Sprouting and blooming oh so new

Reflecting the morning Sun

or beading the morning dew

Though this tree is really old

Say many hundreds years

It is my life and journey see

It’s everything I hold dear

What tree is this I hear you ask
It’s a plant that is always free
With the new being born, and the old fruit gone
It’s my own Family Tree
