Summary

One thing is certain: I have always had an abundance of negative emotions. Everyone feels and experiences mental illness in different ways, as we are all inherently unique creatures with inherently unique stories. The following collection is a series of my feelings and experiences. These topics may be triggering for many, but I've found that through my triggers I can learn more about how my condition affects me, and thus develop better coping mechanisms. I'd give you statistics about childhood mental illness, but from my view they aren't entirely accurate. There are many factors that can skew data, and in the example of childhood mental illness I believe there to be many. For example, parents or teachers don't recognize or report the symptoms. Children don't know how to describe their inner workings, or they don't know that they're ill. A lot of data is based on diagnosed conditions, but many conditions exist without diagnosis. A lack of education about childhood mental health is major factor. Childhood suicide rates may be low in comparison to adults, but it's still the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10-14, behind unintentional injury (https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/statistics/suicide.shtml).

Dreams and Memories

Today, it’s hard to distinguish my childhood dreams from childhood memories – I was prone to such vivid ones, I think some things began blur together. Memory is such a fickle thing. I’ve always prided myself on having a great memory, but thus is often the result of a memory clouded in darkness. You know what they say – the memories that stick with us the strongest are the ones shrouded in negative emotions. One thing is certain: I have always had an abundance of negative emotions.
