Chapter 1
Intro
My name is Santana Lopez and this is my story. My twin sister and I grew up in a small town in California called Sweet Water. When you tell someone you live in California they automatically think you live in Los Angeles. Sweet Water is a very different type of place. There's only two parts in this town. You're either rich or you're poor.
The poor side has a gang and they call themselves the "Serpents". There's only two high schools in this town. Sweet Water High which is in the "rich" side and "South High". The rich is practically separated from the poor which to me is ridiculous. My dad who is the richest man in town is trying to get all the rich together to get rid of the Serpents.
I never seen or met any of the Serpents. I don't see them as a threat. I only see them as people trying to get by. But that's not what my father and my sister think.
My life is pretty miserable. You think just because I "have it all" I'd be happy. I'm not. I'm miserable and feel alone. Twins are suppose to be super close and that's how Serena and I use to be. Not anymore. She's changed. She's exactly like my dad.
My life felt boring and empty, till I met him. A boy who comes from the wrong side of the tracks. A boy with an attitude that I wanted to hate. He slowly pulled me in to his world. I saw sides of him I never knew he had. He changed my little world. The world I only knew. But with him came consequences, heart breaks, drama and violence that I've never experienced in my 17 years of living.
