Chapter one Mateo
After my mother’s death, being beaten for years by my drunk father, who unfortunately or fortunately I don’t know how to feel about it, was hit by a car on his way from the bar one night, I just knew it was time to get out of the small town that brought me nothing but pain. I didn’t mourn the bastard. After his burial, there was nothing left for me to do in that old house that the bank was already claiming.
It wasn't long after that, that I found myself on the street with some childhood friends. It was tough just staying alive. We did every disgusting job to survive.
“Mat, I heard there is this gang that’s recruiting... you know something like bodyguards and errand boys,” Nickolay my best friend said one night while we tried to keep warm by a small fire.
“Do you think they will recruit us?” I scoffed, “I mean look at us. We don’t look fit to be bodyguards,” I replied shaking my head while trying to warm my palm with the coffee mug in my hand.
“Yeah, but they will train us or some shit like that. It will be good to get out of here you know. Just like we thought of doing many times but here we still are." He replied, looking in the distance.
I was considering it. A chance to get some quick money and get a home and possibly go to art school. I loved art. My mum used to buy me some paint and brushes and we would paint anything. It was our way of coping with that asshole. My eyes watered at the thought of my mother. I blink back the tears threatening to spill.
“You know what? We should give it a try. I mean after we've got nothing to lose,” I say to Nick and he grinned giving me a bro hug.
“This is gonna be fun!” He bimmed, “a chance to wear those fancy suits and shit,” His eyes beamed with excitement and hope and it gave me hope as well for a better future for us.
We’ve got nothing to lose anyway.

Here we go 😍
