By the fire every night, when the moon had come out to show her glorious silver face, all the children in the Abike family would come out and sit on the logs provided round the fire. There, they would eat dinner as they listened to their grandma of eighty years tell stories, whether they were true or not.
The Abike family has been present for as long as I could remember. It was in the 1970s that they gained huge fame when Seun Abike became the king of Opomulero Town. Although now they didn't sit on the throne, they still had a huge influence on the town and their decisions.
I remember all of grandma's stories because I was one of the young Abike children that would run when it was 8pm and sit close to grandma and listen attentively because there was always a lesson. At the age of 45 now, dressed in black as we buried my grandma, I was taken back to my childhood and the tales by the FIRE.
