Hello. My name is Alison Stewart, and I live in an island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. No, I am not making this up. I wasn’t born here on Howerton island. And if I tell you the whole story, very quickly, then you would most likely think I have gone bananas. What I mean is, you would probably not believe me if I told you the story, right now, this very moment. So I will tell you the whole story as best as I can. Let me just tell you one thing: you will most likely think this story is not real, and that is fine. But let me assure you that this story I am about to tell is very much real. Let’s begin.
I never wanted to go to boarding school. My family had just gotten very rich, and so my parents told me that I would go to a proper school, where I would be “formally educated” whatever that meant. I wished my parents weren’t so sophisticated.
I was on a plane, in September, making my way to France, to a boarding school called Howie’s Boarding School for Young Business Owners. I did not want to go, not then, and I still don’t now.
I was traveling alone on a private plane, and I was the only passenger. I sat in my seat and sighed. The plane was all white and grey inside, and though the seats were comfortable, I felt squirmy and uncomfortable inside.
Suddenly I felt a strong lurch. I felt for my seat belt, which I had taken off, and tightly strapped it to my body. Then I heard the pilot's voice.
Please fasten your seatbelts, and tuck your head between your knees. Prepare for a crash landing. Do not panic.
How could I not panic, I wondered. I took a quick peek out the window and saw we were flying over the ocean. How could we have a crash landing, if there was nothing to crash into? I put the thought out of my head and tucked my head between my knees.
The plane lurched foreword and I felt my insides churn. It was like riding a roller coaster, only with real fear, and not the roller coaster fear. The plane zoomed down and I felt myself screaming. The next thing I knew my seatbelt broke because I was leaning forward so much it snapped. I tumbled out fo my seat and slid towards the front of the plane.
In a matter of seconds the plane hit the water, with a surprising amount of force. I screamed. The wall of the plane, which I was leaning on, had hit a large rock jutting out of the water. It cracked and a chunk fell out. I slid towards the opening. I tried to crawl back into the plane but it was too much. I fell into the deep water.
Thankfully, I knew how to swim, and I swam away from the sinking plane, panicked and sick. I swam over to the large rock that the plane had hit and climbed onto it. I watched hopelessly as the plane sank into the water, with the one pilot and flight attendant inside it.
The plane was gone now, and I looked around, trying to see if there was anything at all that could help me. I even pinched myself to see if I was dreaming, but this was reality.
I looked at the sky and saw dangerously grey clouds above me. I looked back at the sea and saw heavy waves forming. I gasped and hung onto the rock, waiting for the wave that would soon hit me.
The wave, as I predicated, hit me and though I clung onto the rock I was swept away.
I tried to swim, but the storm was too strong. A clap of thunder made my ears ring. My arms felt feeble as like rubber. I moaned and tried to kick my legs, but all else failed.
Then suddenly I felt a hand grab my wet hair, and then I was hoisted up onto some sort of boat. And that was all I remembered before I lost consciousness.
