Silence before chaos

Pale View Island

"Chief - Chief,"

My attention turns to the young lad, interrupting my stand so (rude); red substance covers his skin so vile. His pale, bare skin shows confusion—his voice cracks with every pant.

"What is it, boy? Why are you not on your post?"

He exhales, holding his stomach for a brief rest. Sweat drops crawl from underneath his helmet. Crawl over his (unmasked) cheekbones.

He turns to the noise, holding his sword in place.

"They are showing, Sir,"

"Who.”

"The deceased, Sir - the dead are approaching,"
