Prologue

“I can’t remember a time I’ve been above ground. Humanity now lives underground in the safety of hidden cities. It’s been a hundred and twenty years since Earth was taken over by monsters we thought were myths. Everyone thought Dragons, and cryptids weren’t real. We were wrong. It started with only one or two sightings, maybe once a month, but soon you couldn’t go a week without seeing one. They attacked major cities: London, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Tokyo, looking for food after years of hibernating in the mountains. The world was in chaos. The government built underground civilizations to protect and maintain the human race. My ancestors first thought, maybe the ocean would be safe. The president sent out the Navy to investigate if underwater cities would be safer, but it wasn’t. What they found shocked everyone to their core. They found a water dragon, mosasaurs, and even plesiosaurs, the fabled dinosaur said to be what the Loch Ness monster. They had no choice but to abandon that possibility and settled for building cities under the soil humanity once walked on, with no worries in the world. Operation Hidden City was approved, and the construction began, the city would be completely underground with a glass dome on top made of bulletproof glass. A scientist by the name of Christopher Morgan came up to make the glass able to see through the ground and provide natural light to the cities. They would build the glass dome underneath a hill to get the best light source from the sun to provide electricity to residents when the sun went down. As soon as construction was done, my ancestors all split into a stable number to maintain food and water supplies. My family had to leave their little town in Pennsylvania to move to the forest and underground. My name is Fawn Mathias, I was born and raised in Cristal City. This is my story.”

PandaMonium: Absolutely loved this book. Best book I've read, not just enjoyed! Wasn't a slow burn that can get boring, Wasn't too fast and didn't give readers a chance. It's just that perfect tempo. I thought towards the ending, that there would be a bit of retaliation, but at the same time, it didn't bother m...

Heika van Walderveen: I had to get used to the style. It’s a lot of switching and getting back into the story of the characters. Also the different timelines were a bit confusing in the beginning. But once you’re used to it, it’s really quite original. The plot is good, but it’s only book 1 (out of 3), but so far so good...
