MOON GODDESS ONLY IN NAME

Breathing deeply in and out in and out, resting my head against a mossy tree, I try and listen for the army that has been following me since I can remember, they have been hunting me for years, they have been relentless, they have been ruthless, they have killed more people than I care to think about, to get any information on my whereabouts.

Every single time I think that I have lost them and they are no longer on my trail, something deep inside my chest screams run, Deva, run, my heart was pumping seriously over time and I needed to catch my breath before I continued on my track.

This is all I knew, one day I had my beautiful family with my white picket fence and the next day they were all massacred by these grotesque looking monsters, they were demanding to know where their kings daughter was, my parents begged and pleaded with these monsters to let them go, they had no idea what they were talking about, in the end the torture got bloody and vile and they butchered my mother and father for information on something they knew nothing about.

When I snuck out on to the roof trying to escape the horror that was my house and my home, one of the monsters broke into my bedroom trashing it, silently I crept to the side wall and leapt off as I always did and ran as fast as my feet could carry me.

That was five years ago, I watched the news stations, trying to see if anything was reported on my parents brutal murders, of course the police never mentioned anything, which was really strange considering the fact they didn’t die silently they begged my mothers screams is one thing, I will never be able to get out of my mind, it haunts me in my dreams every single night.

I ran, I didn’t know what was happening, what those monsters were except evil, I ended up in this small little town miles away from my own, begged for some food at a diner and instead got myself a job at fifteen, waitering, was okay, I made a decent amount of money, I grew up fast, I honestly didn’t have a choice in the matter.

A month went by then two, then the ladies that came in for their daily scones and tea were discussing something about their long time neighbor Mr. Porter, just picking up and leaving, never being unhappy never ever discussing leaving the town just poof gone, but what they let on is that something wasn’t right with Mr. porter that evening they heard him scream out and then there was silence, immediately my mind went to my parents, but I thought nothing of it until another person in this small town just up and left, my mind started racing at the possibilities and what the hell these fucking monsters were after, obviously me, but why? because seriously it was no coincidence that they were in the same town as me, so I packed my meager belongings and saved up cash an ran for the hills.

And that is how I have been living my life for the past five years, I have learnt how to steal, but never from the poor, I learnt how to live off the land and kill when I needed to eat, learning fighting techniques, I never stayed in one place longer than a couple of weeks, thus whaaalaaa! we are here now. were I am standing with my head against a tree with thick moss growing on it.

Scanning my surroundings, I listen for any tell tails that they are close by, most people would assume that massive looking monsters make huge amounts of noise, they didnt though they were swift and stealth like for such big looking brutes, they have come close to catching me but never seeing what I looked like, thank fuck for that.

The birds kept chirping, guess that means they not close yet, so I set my backpack down, and retrieve my water bottel out of my bag and take a long swig, wiping the back of my hand against my mouth, my breathing has gotten back to normal and I felt relieved for the time being.

Crouching down to dig around my bag for a energy bar that I chucked in there yesterday, I heard it, it might have been very natural sounding to most people, but to me I knew they were here, ah fuck, I didnt move a muscle as I listened to where the sound came from, there, I breathe slowly, to my left someone is trying to move in on me very silently, not silent enough mother fucker, I slowly moved my hand to the blade I hid in my boot and held it against my leg as I waited for the onslaught of their attack, hearing gravel crunch underneath someones boot made me rethink this, maybe I should just full out run.

Moving my body lower, I crawl on the dence forest floor, and hear them moving in closer, I kept my breathing so low.

“She is close, I can smell her, Rick” thing one growls

The fuck? thing two has a fucking name and so normal like hell, fucking Rick.

They are getting closer by the second, do I stay or do I run, oh fuck my shitty life, I had five years of escaping these monsters, I wasn't going to go down without a fight.

I creep deeper in the foliage, and stop moving when thing two decides to give his position away, and I swear my heart stopped beating, he wasn't far from where I was hiding, shit!

“Stop, do you hear that, Gav?” thing two that's called Rick says

Holding my breath, I slowly move my body closer into myself and hope that they didnt see any part of my body

Hearing thing one moving in closer to where thing two was standing, instantly I got my fight or flight instincts and took a deep breath and counted down from ten.

Nine

“Gav, she is here I know it, her scent is super crazy here but I cant see anything in this fucking thick forest”

Eight

“Use your fucking fire if you have to Rick, he has lost all his fucking patience with us” he growls

Seven, oh my god

“Fine, but dont say I didnt warn you, if she gets burned he will skin us alive” he growls back

Six, arching my body, I set my hands flat on the ground, searching for a rock or something to throw in the opposite direction

“Come out girl, we arent going to hurt you” Gav says

Five, closing my hand around a small rock, I lift my hand slowly

“Ignore Gav's gruffness girl, he doesnt have any people skills”

Four, one shot is all I have, as I throw the rock, I hear them move in that direction

Three, they run in that direction

Two

One

I burst out of the thick foliage and sprint for the thickest part of the forest, I hear nothing but my heart beating in my ears as I reach one of the trees, a set of thick arms wrap around my body

“I got you now girl” one of the monsters hiss in my ear

I buck with all my might, slamming my head back into his face, I hear the satisfying crunch of his nose and then a howl of pain before he releases me, I make my body move, pumping my arms and legs as fast as I can, hearing the monsters crashing into the foliage right behind me, I pump my arms and legs until it burns, everything burns, my legs my arms and my lungs.

“Stop, fuck, we just need to speak to you” one screams right behind me

“Never” I scream backwards

“She fucking speaks, grab her and let us be done with this”

“Leave me the fuck alone assholes”

One moment I am so close to making the jump over the cliff, and to my freedom, again, but I dont see the edge as I fall to the ground with someone tackling me to the ground, pushing their knees into my back and putting all their goddamn weight into it

“Fuck girl stay still or I will bind you up with rope so tight you wont even be able to blink”

“Fuck you” I scream with my face still planted in the dirt

“Oh yeah its his fucking daughter all right, that temper is up there” Rick says giving a good laugh

“Just relax okay, we didnt chase you down to kill you” Rick the monster says again

“Oh, am I? to what, just believe that, after you viciously attacked my parents, and people in the towns I lived in? is that not reason to have concern that you will kill me, hey, hey fucker keep your fucking claws to yourself" I give a hiss of my own

It's a little bit out of my normal way of writing but I'm embracing some darkness in it
