Sorry I was so Stupid But You Can't Change This

I do not own Guardians or the cover image.

Why can I talk to you right now? And who am I?

I am Peter Quill, aka Starlord. I can talk to you because I'm dead.

You want to know how? Okay. I'll tell you.

2 months earlier...

The team and I were on a mission from Nova Prime

The mission was simple. Go in, find the location of the bad guy, get out.

Leave it to me to find away to mess things up.

Gamora and I were in the control room she was on the computer looking for the location of... hold on... I can't remember the person's name. All I do remember was that he was some kind of thief.

She was looking through the files on the computer and I was fighting off the guards.

I thought I had fought off the last one. So I turned my back on the door and looked over Gamora's shoulder.

That was my mistake. I was focussed on the screen. And I didn't hear the last guard come up behind me. I didn't hear him pull out his knife. But I did feel it when he pushed the knife in between my shoulder blades. I fell to the floor, writhing in pain.

This alerted Gamora. She turned and when she saw the situation she took her own knife out and quickly stabbed the guy in the heart.

"Peter. You okay?" She asked with slight hints of concern in her voice.

I nodded even though I wasn't okay. She quickly went back to the computer. I pushed my back against the floor as hard as I could to try to halt the blood flow. She quickly finished the computer and pulled out her flash-drive. As us Terrans called them. She stood up and turned. This time she looked scared.

"Peter. You lied. You're not okay." She said as she kneeled next to me.

"I guess not." I said with the slightest smile on my face.

She carefully turned me over to examine the wound. I remember her look of fright and sadness.

"We need help." She stated.

"Yeah no kidding." I replied.

At that moment, what scared me most was my voice seemed to be getting quieter. And I wasn't trying to talk quietly.

Gamora ran to the computer and picked up her communicator.

"Drax? Groot? Rocket? Anyone? We need help! Peter's in trouble!" She yelled into the communicator.

"What do you mean Gamora?" The deeper voice of Drax came through the communicator.

"Peter's been stabbed!" She sounded frantic. But my hearing was fading and so was my vision.

I needed to talk while I still could.

"Gamora?" I called for her as loudly as I could.

She turned to me. To my surprised she had tears in her eyes.

"Sorry I was so stupid... But you can't change this." I told her.

She came back over to me and kneeled next to me.

She moved her face closer to mine until our lips touched and she kissed me. I kissed her back.

She moved away. She was now clearly struggling to hold back her tears.

I very faintly heard loud footsteps hitting metal. Probably the others. My vision was growing darker by the second.

"Quill!" It sounded like Rocket. But I could barely hear anymore.

I focussed my eyes on Gamora. If I was going to die. I wanted her to be that last thing I saw.

My eyes closed. I couldn't keep them open any longer. I felt Gamora shaking me. I faintly heard her calling my name. I heard her crying. Then my hearing disappeared entirely.

Then it became official.

Starlord was dead.
